Urban Forest

Initial plan for today was to go to Greenville (a village in Smithfield) to shoot a street scene. Trying to avoid traffic on Route 44, though, I took a back route that led me past the old Esmond Mills (now the Benny's warehouse.) Glancing at the large stack towering over the area, I noticed a tree growing out of the stack! That's when this scene came together in my mind. The concept of trees growing out of these old stacks isn't quite as rare as it would seem. A coworker alerted me to a similar situation in Providence, and I remember a bit of a stir as a kid when an oak tree grew out of the bell tower of an Armenian Orthodox Church in Providence. It certainly demonstrates the tenacity of plants to sprout anywhere, and judging by the size of the growth in this stack, the conditions seem to be quite favorable.

Post processing started with a detail light filter in Topaz Adjust. I adjusted levels slightly, and toned the saturation down a wee bit. The final step was a cooling filter applied just to the sky.
