Bridging the Gap

I spotted this scene the other day. The concrete supports form the foundation of The Henderson Bridge, as it's officially known. Of course, true Rhode Islanders simply call it "The New Red Bridge." A couple of hundred yards to the right sat the original Red Bridge, a narrow two lane (barely) bridge that had to pivot in place anytime a boat passed. The process took almost a half hour, so you can imagine what traffic looked like while motorists on both sides waited for the boat to pass. I'm not sure what those wooden structures represent, though. As near as I can tell, they simply provide a lane through the center of the channel, but I thought that's why they invented red and green channel markers.

Post processing started with a brilliant warm filter in Topaz Adjust. I then slightly adjusted adaptive exposure and contrast. I applied heavier adjustments to strength and detail boost. In PSE I converted to B&W using a gradient map in color blend mode. I then adjusted the hue dramatically to the red for improved contrast and to deepen the foliage in the background. I applied a deep blue filter to the sky to tone down the luminosity a bit. Levels, brightness, and contrast were all adjusted. The top layer was a sepia photo filter.
