History in Disrepair

At the corner of Kennedy Drive and Pomfret Avenue, and conveniently nestled on the banks of the Quinebaug River sits the oldest cotton mill in the nation. The Cargill Falls Mill went into operation in 1807 on the site of Benjamin Cargill's 1730 grist mill. The 1807 facility experienced a series of renovations and additions through 1869. Despite it's state of disrepair, there are still several business located in this historic building, however many of the windows are broken, the large smoke stack is in need of repair, and the overall structure could definitely use some tender loving care. Given it's location along the Putnam River Trail, I'm told that funds have been allocated for historic restorations.

Today's processing started in Redynamix with some adjustments to saturation, dynamic lighting, and a few tweaks of the color curves. In PSE I applied a gradient map in color blend mode to produce the b&w conversion. I then adjusted the hues heavily into the red for improved contrast, applied a levels adjustment, and applied a brightness and contrast adjustment. The top layer is a sepia photo filter.
Love seeing these old historic structures revamped into living or commercial space... lots of neat industrial elements in these types of old buildings!
