Twins

I featured these silos once before in this gallery, however today I opted to present them as a black and white study. The sky was suitable for a nice, high contrast shot, and I decided to go with a much closer view than last time around. It's an interesting farm structure, so I may do more with it. There was a bit of color in the background trees today, but not enough for me to consider handling this as anything other than a b&w. If those trees do the scene justice, I'll revisit it around peak period.

Post processing started with a classic filter in Topaz B&W FX. I adjusted the color sensitivity sliders quite a bit, and then adjusted adaptive exposure, contrast, boost black, and boost white. I also adjusted the underlying hue a bit for improved detail in the trees. In PSE I applied a levels adjustment on the overall image and also adjusted the trim on the barn to obtain the pure white needed for the b&w contrast. I did not apply a sepia filter this time, though, preferring instead to leave the silvery tone of the original conversion. An annoying flock of very high flying birds that resembled dust blotches more than anything else were edited out of the clouds. (There were about 15 gulls all circling, but they were high enough that they had no form and were more of a distraction than they were worth.)
Wonderful texture in those silos... b & w the perfect choice!
