Rocky Pasture by kannafoot

Rocky Pasture

With the potential for thunder storms this afternoon, I went to Scituate early this morning for this photo of a farm complex along Central Pike. Clouds were already gathering to the northwest, adding an interesting dynamic to the scene. The section fenced off in the foreground is a bit of a mystery. It doesn't look like it was designed to hold any farm animals, and it's clearly fenced off from the main pasture. I considered a black and white scene here, but there was insufficient contrast on the white end of the histogram for it to work well. The black and white scene also produced a very threatening sky and that completely changed the mood of the scene. Instead, I stuck with the color version.

Post processing started with a simple pop filter in Topaz Adjust. I adjusted adaptive exposure, regions, contrast, and adaptive saturation. In PSE I added a levels adjustment, and a warming photo filter. I also applied a burn to the shadows on the fence posts and a dodge to the highlights on the posts. The burn was at 54% opacity and the dodge at 25%.

Here's the high res version in Smugmug: http://kannafoot.smugmug.com/Photo-Challenges/PAD2013/i-NzwChCK/0/XL/2013%2004%2001_0056%20copy-XL.jpg
Beautiful shot and nicely processed. I am so jealous of your colourful farm buildings!
