Fish Ladder Sans Fish by kannafoot

Fish Ladder Sans Fish

Two new fish ladders were built in East Providence in time for this year's herring spawn. This is the ladder at the historic John Hunt House in the Hunts Mills section. There were several people here that have been coming every day for the last two weeks, but to date there have been no shad or herring using the ladder. It's possible that the ponds upstream may need to be stocked with spawning herring to produce future generations that will spawn up this river. There haven't been herring in the upper river in a number of years, so there's speculation that the species no longer follows this path to spawn. I'll keep checking back over the course of the next month since the spawn typically runs through the middle of May.

Post processing started with a classic filter in Topaz B&W FX. I adjusted color sensitivity sliders, boost black, boost white, adaptive exposure, and contrast. A levels adjustment and sepia photo filter were added in PSE.

Here's the high res version in Smugmug: http://kannafoot.smugmug.com/Photo-Challenges/PAD2013/i-2G8BQLP/0/XL/2013%2004%2015_0009%20copy-XL.jpg
I feel like this photo has a lot of movement. My eye gets drawn to the churning water on the bottom left and slowly draws up to the churning water on the right top. Great movement!
