Island Influence

While driving through Roger Williams Park in search of a photo, I spotted this section of the adjacent Oakland Cemetery. With graves dating back to 1848, the cemetery provides an interesting view into the way the cities demographics have changed. This section of the cemetery contains the graves of Rhode Island's Puerto Rican community. As of 2009, 23.56% of the city was of Puerto Rican heritage. The style of decoration in this section of the cemetery is more typical of what you would find in the Caribbean islands. While the grass could use a bit of a trim, the graves themselves are very well cared for, and almost all have small shrines with candles and flowers.

Post processing started with a brilliant warm filter in Topaz Adjust. I then adjusted adaptive exposure, regions, and contrast. A levels adjustment was added in PSE.

Here's the high res version in Smugmug: http://kannafoot.smugmug.com/Photo-Challenges/PAD2013/i-PrPGZrn/0/XL/2013%2006%2004_0024%20copy-XL.jpg
Quite exciting and busy, in a good way.
