Improving the Odds

The weather forecast for today was horrible, so as a precaution I stopped at India Point before work. With the "nifty fifty" attached, I found this interesting scene of one fisherman with 7 poles lined across the dark. (The two spectators in the background are just that: spectators. They were not fishing.) As I lined up the shot, the fisherman leaped into action, making a big show of reaching for the pole and grinning broadly for the camera. He held that pose through every shot I took. The prey, in this case, were striped bass. He had not caught any this morning, but several 34 pounders were pulled out of the river here yesterday, so he was optimistic that he'd have something to show for it. Of course, if a 34 pound fish grabs one of those lines, I'm not quite sure how he planned to catch the pole before it went into the river. Now that would make a great photo!

Post processing started with a classic filter in Topaz B&W FX. I adjusted color sensitivity sliders, adaptive exposure, regions, boost black, boost white, and protect highlights. A levels adjustment and a sepia photo filter were added in PSE.
