Miss Betsy by kannafoot

Miss Betsy

This is a dramatic departure from my normal style, but I was in the mood for something different, today. When I first processed this photo, I did it as a black and white. The net result was good - it had the right contrast and composition to make a good b&w image - but there was something in the color combinations that suggested there was an interesting post-processing possibility here. I decided to explore it, and this is the result.

Miss Betsy is the only duck boat operating in Rhode Island. The duck boats are World War II era amphibious boats that are configured to provide local tours from both land and water. They're extremely popular in Boston, and it's nice to see them now starting to operate in the Ocean State. This one is in Roger Williams Park in Providence. The name "Miss Betsy" is derived from Betsy Williams, the great-great-great-granddaughter of the state's founder and the last Williams descendent to own the land upon which the park now sits.

Post processing today started with a Vintage Grunge II filter in Topaz Adjust. I adjusted adaptive exposure, regions, contrast, and brightness. A levels adjustment and a brightness/contrast adjustment was added in PSE. A slight bit of editing was also done to remove a compositional distraction.

Here's the high res version in Smugmug: http://kannafoot.smugmug.com/Photo-Challenges/PAD2013/i-pNkW2wS/0/XL/2013%2008%2016_0004%202%20copy-XL.jpg
I love seeing people mixing it up. Great difference.
