Aquatic Harvest by kannafoot

Aquatic Harvest

I was in East Greenwich for Sunday Brunch today, so on my way home I stopped at Goddard Park in Warwick to look for some photo opportunities. I spotted this family along the shore harvesting something out of the bay. Unfortunately, there was a bit of a language barrier when I spoke to them, so I'm not clear on what they were actually gathering. They said they were gathering shrimp, but I wasn't aware of there being any shrimp off the coast of Rhode Island. Turns out, there are. Sand shrimp and ghost shrimp are both found here, although there's some debate on whether or not they are edible. I did find article online that suggest sand shrimp can be used to make a shrimp stock for soup, and ghost shrimp can be cooked like crayfish and eaten the same way. Either way, it was a beautiful day for them to be out along the water as a family.

Post processing started with a brilliant warm filter in Topaz Adjust. I then adjusted adaptive exposure, contrast, and brightness. A levels adjustment was added in PSE.

Here's the high res version in Smugmug: http://kannafoot.smugmug.com/Photo-Challenges/PAD2013/i-xpq7tdj/0/XL/2013%2008%2018_0031%20copy-XL.jpg
