Pothole Installation by kannafoot

Pothole Installation

For today's photo, I went downcity at lunch planning to do some street photography. It turns out, there was construction on Charles Street and access to my favorite parking area for my lunch photos was a bit of a slalom course. Rhode Island roads are infamous for potholes, patches, cracks, and frost heaves. The state actually ranks 49th in road quality, being surpassed only by Alaska with its hundreds of miles of gravel roads. I'm not sure what the crew in today's photo is doing other than digging a pretty deep hole in the asphalt, but as a native Rhode Islander it's easy for me to imagine that they are installing one of the potholes for which the state is famous.

Post processing started with a detail light filter in Topaz Adjust. I then adjusted adaptive exposure, regions, contrast, and adaptive saturation. A levels adjustment was added in PSE.

Here's the high res version in Smugmug: http://kannafoot.smugmug.com/Photo-Challenges/PAD2013/i-cbvQVqz/0/XL/2013%2009%2012_0010%20copy-XL.jpg
Good to see tax dollars at work... at least two of them are working! Maybe they install the potholes so that another crew can stay busy fixing them! :)
