Out For a Stroll

I decided to head back to the Blackstone River Bike Path under the Route 116 bridge for today's photo. Despite some very nice fall foliage, the lines and the lighting on this bridge just begged for black and white. It didn't take long before this trio of walkers sauntered by so I was able to get a very nice people-photo under the bridge. The sign on the left marks the entrance to the Blackstone River State Park, which is part of the extensive Blackstone River National Heritage Corridor. The river played a predominant role in the advancement of the American Industrial Revolution serving as a means of transportation between Providence and Worcester, a power source for the water wheels that ran the mills, and as a waste dump for the chemicals used in the production of textiles.

Post processing started with a classic filter in Topaz B&W FX. I adjusted color sensitivity sliders, adaptive exposure, regions, boost black, boost white, contrast, and protect highlights. A levels adjustment and a sepia photo filter were added in PSE.

Here's the high res version on Smugmug: http://kannafoot.smugmug.com/Photo-Challenges/PAD2013/i-8ms3QvG/0/XL/2013%2010%2015_0026%20copy-XL.jpg
Great shot and processing. Viewing large is well worth it to see the clarity and detail in the bridge and trees towards the back. Great composition too with the walkers in frame.

Super shot. The bridge is so powerful in this.

@aleksandra @tryingforsighs Thanks, Aleksandra and Rachel. I do love that bridge. This small area is part of an old mill village, so there are scores of potential photos all around. One of these days, I'll be there when the P&W Railroad is pulling coal across one of the old fashioned street crossing lanes. It's the reason I keep going back to that spot.
