Moffett Mill by kannafoot

Moffett Mill

Now little more than a ruin, the Moffett Mill on historic Great Road in Lincoln was built in 1812 by George Olney. It's the first machine shop built in Rhode Island. The small dam was built in 1850 after Arnold Moffett purchased the mill. He specialized in producing made-to-order parts for ships, sleighs, carriages, furniture and wagons. With Rhode Island's open opposition to the War of 1812, the mill was not known to have participated in the war-time economy that would have flourished in the mid-Atlantic ship-building trade.

Post processing started with a classic filter in Topaz B&W FX. I adjusted color sensitivity sliders, adaptive exposure, regions, contrast, boost black, boost white, and protect highlights. A levels adjustment was added in PSE.

Here's the high res version in Smugmug: http://kannafoot.smugmug.com/Photo-Challenges/PAD2013/i-83CR3Q6/0/XL/2013%2012%2027_0003%20copy-XL.jpg
This seems just begging for preservation. Could you forward your photo to any group that does so?

@cejaanderson It was donated to the Town of Lincoln about 30 years ago, and they've tried to maintain the interior. The problem isn't one of funding - there are several historical preservation groups in this district that would willingly maintain it - but rather one of location. The town has yet to figure out a safe way to get the general public in and out of the mill. It sits on a blind curve on Great Road, and the shoulder of the road is less than a foot wide. The location likely made sense in 1812 when Great Road was a dirt carriage road - still heavily used, mind you - but it's pretty treacherous with today's traffic.
