Ready or Not

I was thinking of getting some photos of folks sledding near the Temple to Music, preferably with the Temple in the background, so I went to Roger Williams Park this afternoon armed only with my 35mm f/1.4. Passing the first set of sledders in the park, I spotted something I hadn't seen in several decades: a REAL sled! Forget the Temple, I knew I had to get a photo of the authentic Flexible Flyer. As luck would have it, this family was setting up for another run. The little girl wanted no part of the real sled - she preferred a large inner tube style uncontrollable projectile - but her mom was ready to give it a go. This was her first run using the real sled and she wasn't quite sure how to go about steering it, but as far as the rest of her family was concerned, she was taking too long. As you can see in this photo, they're sending her off and she's putting up all sorts of resistance. Suffice it to say, gravity - and a strong push from her dad - wins the day. Fortunately, she did figure out how to steer in time to avoid a tree at the base of the hill.
Post processing started with a classic filter in Topaz B&W FX. I adjusted color sensitivity sliders, adaptive exposure, contrast, regions, boost black, and protect highlights. A levels adjustment was added in PSE.
