February decided to remind us that it's still winter. The temperature plunged into single digits overnight, and the wind have a vicious bite to it. Still, with most of the snow off the ground, I optimistically went to India Point Park hoping there would be some people there walking, running, or doing just about anything photo worthy. Notice, however, that the only people you see in today's photo are the ones carved into this mural. That's right, I was the only fool in the park freezing my butt off. So much for optimism.

Post processing started with a classic filter in Topaz B&W FX. I adjusted color sensitivity sliders, adaptive exposure, regions, contrast, boost black, boost white, and protect highlights. A levels adjustment was added in PSE.

Here's the high res version in Smugmug: http://kannafoot.smugmug.com/Photo-Challenges/PAD2014/i-v5fWhvJ/0/XL/2014%2002%2027_0012%20copy-XL.jpg
The black and white really shows the texture, but I was interested in if the mosaic was colorful, so I looked this up. I think b & w is still the best. I know you were short on time and couldn't give a long narrative, but the history of this I found quite fascinating with the connection to the Seeger family and the contributions of one tile each to hundreds of community members.

@cejaanderson You know, I didn't even think to look up the history behind the mural! It's in a small playground at India Point Park, and I just thought it was a decoration on the small wall around the sandbox area. Now you have me curious!

Nice alternative to photographing people! :D
We have 9°C outside too. Where is spring?

@justaspark LOL It's amazing what we will photograph in a pinch! As to spring... They are predicting another 12 to 18 inches of snow for Monday. /sigh I need to move to Arizona.
