Barrington, Rhode Island

I planned to go to Bristol today where they had replicas of two of Columbus' ships - the Nina and Pinta - docked at the town wharf. Traffic was absolutely brutal, though, so I cut it short and stopped along the Barrington River for this photo. This young couple were heading out for an afternoon of Striper fishing and I arrived just as they were putting the boat in the water. They'd only been out once before this year, but it was apparently too early for Stripers. They were hoping for better luck this afternoon. I've been hearing that the Stripers are biting just about anything you toss in the water, so I'd say their prospects are pretty good. Either way, it's a beautiful day to be on the water.

Post processing started with a neutral greyscale filter in Topaz B&W FX. I adjusted color sensitivity sliders, adaptive exposure, regions, and contrast. A levels adjustment was added in PSE.

Here's the high res version in Smugmug: http://kannafoot.smugmug.com/Photo-Challenges/PAD2014/i-CNFVBnF/0/XL/2014%2006%2007_0019%20copy-XL.jpg

Wonderful shot. I love the Topaz filters that I have.
I didn't know that Stripers were fish.

@cdonohoue Everyone calls them "Stripers", Cathy, but the real name is "Striped Bass." Basically, Stripers are the ones large enough to keep, and "Schoolies" are the ones that are too small. I think the legal limit right now is 33 inches, so a Striper's a pretty good sized fish!

@cdonohoue I was close... It's 34 inches in RI this year.
