Racing on the 4th

Seekonk, Massachusetts

I went to the USA 5K road race in Seekonk this morning. This year's race was a fundraiser to benefit the American Heart Association. It's a small, local road race not unlike the races that gave rise to the running boom in the 1970s. In today's photo, you see Luke Lewis, a 32-year old firefighter from Pawtucket, Rhode Island with about 1/2 mile to go in the race. He went the distance in full fire-fighting attire, including a heavy oxygen tank strapped to his back. (Given the humidity that's preceding Hurricane Arthur, I'd be sampling that oxygen by this point!) If seen him in several races over the past year, and this is his standard race attire.

Post processing started with a neutral greyscale filter in Topaz B&W FX. I adjusted color sensitivity sliders, adaptive exposure, regions, contrast, boost black, details, and protect highlights. A levels adjustment was added in PSE.

Here's the high res version in Smugmug: http://kannafoot.smugmug.com/Photo-Challenges/PAD2014/i-qqbwxLq/0/XL/2014%2007%2004_0135%20copy-XL.jpg
