A High Perch

I went to Lincoln woods for today's photo. There was a light drizzle falling, so I wasn't sure what there would be for subjects. On a whim, I turned down a small rut-and-boulder strewn lane that leads to a hidden section of the pond. I was rewarded with this photo of a fisherman standing atop a glacial erratic jutting out over the water. The lighting was brutal, though. The cloud cover created a very bright background that posed some major exposure challenges. In the end, I settled for this compromise although the sky is still blown-out white in spots. It was a scene that called for HDR, but that would eliminate the action of him casting. It's all about compromise, and what you see here was my solution.
Post processing started with a neutral filter in Topaz B&W FX. I adjusted color sensitivity sliders, adaptive exposure, regions, contrast, boost black, details, and protect highlights. A levels adjustment was added in PSE.
