Elisha Smith's Legacy

Smithfield, Rhode Island
Still reeling from King Philip's War and with war between the British and French raging to the north and west, Elisha Smith built a small single room home with a loft from which he hoped to manage a working farm. As his family grew, so too, did the one-room stone-ender. Rather than demolish and rebuild, over the years the Smith family (and later, the Appleby family who inherited the property through marriage) continued to enlarge the house. A sawmill, grist mill, and blacksmith shop were added. Today, the house (seen in the background) and property are the headquarters of the Smithfield Historical Society and are open to the public.
Post processing started with a classic filter in Topaz B&W FX. I adjusted color sensitivity sliders, adaptive exposure, regions, contrast, boost black, boost white, and protect highlights. A levels adjustment was added in PSE.
