Wharf District

Providence, Rhode Island
The buildings that straddle Water Street and South Main Street in Providence date back to the early 19th century, and in some cases, the mid-to-late 18th century. Today, they feature office buildings and upscale dining. The Wild Colonial Tavern, seen here, is listed as one of the top 50 Taverns in the US. Originally, though, this area was the wharf district. These buildings were warehouses and offices for the seafaring merchants that built Providence into one of the most prosperous port cities in the fledgeling US. The area changed dramatically in the late 20th century thanks to major development that gave the entire district a facelift.
Post processing started with a classic filter in Topaz B&W FX. I adjusted color sensitivity sliders, adaptive exposure, regions, contrast, boost black, boost white, and protect highlights. A levels adjustment was added in PSE.
