When I was at Slater Mill last week, I noticed that the Blackstone River was running high, creating some excellent choppy movement below the dam. I decided to take advantage of that for today's photo. The sky was overcast, which worked out well for this type of composition. The position of the sun this time of day typically washes out the water coming over the dam. With the sun obscured by clouds, I was able to get a decent amount of contrast without blowing out the water. At some point, I'll return to this spot for an HDR version, but I'd like a bit of snow or ice on the ground to augment that.
Post processing started with a neutral filter in Topaz B&W FX. I adjusted color sensitivity sliders, adaptive exposure, regions, contrast, and boost black. A levels adjustment was added in PSE.
