To be fair, I don't exactly know what Kenyan motel standards might be, but we were assured of three things before arriving for our month long stay -
1. it was the best motel in town
2. there was a safe in every room for your laptop & camera
3. the website was the best part of the motel....
We did get safes installed in our rooms after requesting them (☑️️) and the website domain had expired for a few weeks! The sunsets from the fire escape were cool (☑️️) and the mosquito nets had no major tears in them. The motel compound security was excellent. My aircondition was awesome while there was power (☑️️ ☑️️) and the bed was comfy & linen clean (☑️️) if a little worn out. Gin was not expensive, but they did run out of tonic for 7 days! Overall, all the important things ticked the box.
I was on the 3rd floor of an austere building, that was desperately in need of maintenance, but we were not there for a luxury holiday and the many little oddities we experienced will add to the unique memories!
www.hotelnyakoe.com but perhaps take 'truth in advertising' lightly .... and don't think too hard about the other motels in Kisii town - I will post some images of those later.
All in all it looks like a decent sort of place even if the standards are a little below what we might be accustomed to. I would have to say it definitely beats a mud hut made out of branches, mud and dung...end it looks like there's running water
@grammyn very true - we visited a mud hut -- that was definitely not up to standard & could not stay in there!! The shower had water that was more 'falling sparse dribble' than running, in one of our rooms the plumbing was not even connected to the handbasin. My first room toilet flushed quite nicely but then kept flushing slowly for about 2 hours.....(they did give me another room when requested - most of the time we were the only guests even though there were hundreds of rooms. @laetitiapetrussa@seattlite@ruthmouch thanks - there was no point dwelling on all of the little annoyances - it was what it was!!
@ltodd although we stayed in the house when we were in Tanzania our shower sounds very similar to what you experienced but I think perhaps our toilet was better! It does make you appreciate some of the finer things in life
