will they welcome us? by ltodd

will they welcome us?

Day 3 - and this morning it is our first school visit. I have no idea what will actually happen - and I am quietly apprehensive - what if the children are too busy doing their own stuff ? what if they are antagonistic? what if they just ignore us or walk away .....

.....well even before the van came to a stop, we were surrounded by a sea of singing & smiling children....you can see how we were 'mobbed' trying to get out of the vans...and taking photos became secondary as I was trying to comprehend this 'right royal' experience!

I am absolutely tragically hopeless at video taking & editing, but I really wanted to share the emotion of this welcome with you, so I have learnt how to join video clips together and upload them to youtube! ( go on, you watch it......cos it is less than a minute out of your busy day...)

That video is way too short! I want one the lasts 10 minutes! Beautiful photos in your collage and a fabulous video, Lyn. You did a magnificent job of catching their enthusiasm both in the photos and the video

Great collage! But I loved the video. These are precious children and you captured their enthusiasm so well in both.

Smashing video, all those excited and inquiring faces, they live in such poverty but are so keen to learn.

@judithdeacon I think that surprised me the most too Judith - so resilient and happy. At this school even the parents came to meet us & sit in on our classes!
@grammyn never fear - there are many more videos still to process - we visited more than 20 different schools & had welcome dances & 'assembly' at each one. At some we were invited to join in the dances which was great fun - especially when the whole scool laugh at the mazungas looking so funny!! Luckily I can't video myself dancing though so you will be spared that sight...!) When we visited the final school, the parents did a dance for us too that I did video!
What is so different, as you might have noticed in Tanzania, is that the traditional dancing is so social & full of joy - it is not a 'display' or performance at all.

@ltodd can't wait to see the others. A perfect description of their dancing and, indeed, of how they live which I did notice but couldn't figure out why it was so appealing. Thanks to you I understand t now.
