Day 3 - and this morning it is our first school visit. I have no idea what will actually happen - and I am quietly apprehensive - what if the children are too busy doing their own stuff ? what if they are antagonistic? what if they just ignore us or walk away .....
.....well even before the van came to a stop, we were surrounded by a sea of singing & smiling children....you can see how we were 'mobbed' trying to get out of the vans...and taking photos became secondary as I was trying to comprehend this 'right royal' experience!
I am absolutely tragically hopeless at video taking & editing, but I really wanted to share the emotion of this welcome with you, so I have learnt how to join video clips together and upload them to youtube! ( go on, you watch it......cos it is less than a minute out of your busy day...) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=88BOweEldUc&feature=youtu.be
That video is way too short! I want one the lasts 10 minutes! Beautiful photos in your collage and a fabulous video, Lyn. You did a magnificent job of catching their enthusiasm both in the photos and the video
@judithdeacon I think that surprised me the most too Judith - so resilient and happy. At this school even the parents came to meet us & sit in on our classes! @grammyn never fear - there are many more videos still to process - we visited more than 20 different schools & had welcome dances & 'assembly' at each one. At some we were invited to join in the dances which was great fun - especially when the whole scool laugh at the mazungas looking so funny!! Luckily I can't video myself dancing though so you will be spared that sight...!) When we visited the final school, the parents did a dance for us too that I did video!
What is so different, as you might have noticed in Tanzania, is that the traditional dancing is so social & full of joy - it is not a 'display' or performance at all.
@ltodd can't wait to see the others. A perfect description of their dancing and, indeed, of how they live which I did notice but couldn't figure out why it was so appealing. Thanks to you I understand t now.
I loved all of these photos of yours and the video was amazing. Made me smile. Love the Old McDonald song. Thanks again for sharing! I'm learning as I read through your photos!
