breakfast? by ltodd

breakfast?

I have mentioned African tea (a chai) is the most common breakfast in Kisii ( http://www.takamotobiogas.com/just-for-fun/how-to-recipe-for-the-best-kenyan-chai-tea/ ), however if tea & sugar are not in the larder, a small stick of sugar cane is breakfast instead.

Street vendors are located at every speed hump ( of which there are a great many!) because they know cars must slow down. Vendors take the opportunity to thrust the wares through the window if possible, urging you to purchase it. Our driver once bought about 6 sticks through his window, at a cost of 20 cents. Formal employment in Kisii is just 14%, and I am beginning to see these vendors working on survival rather than making a bid for easy money.
Great capture :)

What a beautifully clear shot. Gorgeous children.

Thanks for the recipe. Chai tea was served to us at the orphanage occasionally for a mid day break along with mandazi, a deep fried sweet bread. Most of the food was delicious

Those eyes looking straight into your camera! She looks like a little character.

Seeing them through your eyes brings home how tough their life is. I like the portrait in context.

Beautiful capture. I can just imagine what the "experts" would say about a breakfast of sugar cane. Easy for them to judge being so far removed from the reality of what these folks face each day.
