Guess Who's Coming to Dinner? by olivetreeann

Guess Who's Coming to Dinner?

We came home from church today and found we had company! I told him he could come in as long as he posed for a few shots.

I have admired many insect shots on 365 because they were so detailed and close to the subject. So far I had only been able to that with mushrooms!! But today, nature dropped a model on my doorstep. I was somewhat surprised that he didn't hop away, but you can see he's sticking out that feeler to check the camera out. So now I have one grasshopper shot under my belt!
Oh nice close-up Ann

better one grasshopper shot under your belt than one grasshopper there. funny but we used to live on the Wyoming prairie and this shot took me right back there, and to the memory of walking through a swarm of these and thinking it was great fun to herd them toward our chicken pen.

Great shot, one of my favorite subjects, insects.

I'm not surprised that he waited there, Ann. He heard that there was a good photographer living in your house!! Great catch and clarity. Love the wood for the texture!

Awesome detail!!!

@pandorasecho Wow Dixie- that's quite a memory- the swarm I mean. I've only seen one at a time in real life, and the swarms on nature shows. But even then, it seemed pretty scary especially when you see the deforestation afterwards. I'm assuming this was a smaller swarm which is why you could herd them? Thanks for the comment, and I hope it was a good memory!
@sanera Thanks Samantha!

@potsbypam Thanks Pam. I was just waiting for him to hop- both Jeff and I were standing there looking at him and of course, I was sticking the camera in his face!
October 10th, 2011
@olivetreeann I think he wanted his picture taken. The word is out and now you will get tons of photos of all kinds of interesting animals that come by to be memorialized by your camera! Even a grasshopper is appointed a day to be beautiful!
October 10th, 2011
Remarkable. I can practically feel the texture of his skin. Great macro. Maybe he is getting old and not as jumpy as he used to be.
October 10th, 2011
@potsbypam Oh Pam- you are too funny!!! (o:
@allie912 Thank you Allison! I never checked to see when he left. I'm sure he's out there chirping now. With the warmer weather we have more "singers" out.

Ann, great catch. BTW, I took a photo of a grasshopper or cicada about 2 wks ago but never posted it b/c he ran into one of the shrubs and became a bit camouflaged ;-) I had intended to post a dull creek shot I took this AM, but think I'll do the "bug" instead.

@sarasdadandmom Thank you Terry! We don't see them like this too often. We have too many places for them to hide!
