Same Subject Challenge- Day 1 by olivetreeann

Same Subject Challenge- Day 1

I saw this challenge posted a week or so ago and it intrigued me. So I thought I'd give it a try over the last few days of my 365 Project. I decided to tackle the subject of Hanukkah in honor of my Jewish friends who begin their 8 day celebration tonight.

The center candle on the Hanukkah menorah is called the Servant Candle. It is always the first one lit and it lights all the others. As the candles are lit a blessing is recited: Blessed art Thou, O L-rd, King of the Universe who sanctifies us and commands us to light these candles to celebrate Hanukkah.
I like the composition

A lovely tribute. From your comment I surmise you will be winding down your 365 project. No possibility of staying around?

@kerristephens Thanks Kerri!
@allie912 Thank you Allison. I think I'm staying but I haven't decided how I'm going to approach Yr. 2. I can't imagine not having any interaction with this site- and the people have come to mean so much to me. I know I need to balance out my time a little better, so that's what I'm grappling with- not IF I should return, but HOW. My first year is officially over in 10 days. I can't believe the whole year has gone by!

Beautiful photo, Ann. And loved the comment. I certainly hope that you won't be leaving us . . I would miss you! You're so inspirational and supportive. I understand the need for a break. But I hope that you will find a way to stay with us. :)

very nice photo... I like your processing, it really gives a beautiful feel to the photo

@karenann Thanks Karenann- I'm not planning to leave, it's mostly just figuring out how to spend less time on it! Hubby is feeling a bit left out.
@crickle1969 Thanks Crickle! This is the posterize effect with 100% detail and the highest amount of colors left in. I liked how it gave the shot a warm feeling.
December 22nd, 2011
@olivetreeann I love using posterize. I think I may try this challenge next week since I'm off work.
December 22nd, 2011
@crickle1969 It was started by Shutterfly and I think she has been doing this for her entire 365 album with a bottle. One week will be enough for me! If you do start use the tag: Same-Subject-Challenge. She apparently likes to look at what others do on a regular basis. There is a discussion posted too under themes and competitions, but it's buried down a few pages now. I'll be looking forward to what you do!

@olivetreeann Thanks! I did a search and found her. I'll have to give it some thought. I will probably only do a week, too as I would get VERY bored doing it for much longer than that. ;-)

Thats a good subject for the this challenge! I might try this challenge too, I just need to pick a subject. ~ Nice shot! Looking forward to the next couple days. ~

Nicely done.
December 22nd, 2011
What a great idea! I think you captured the spirit perfectly.

@crickle1969 Somewhere in that discussion Shutterfly suggests that if you can't think of something, grab a handful of household items, put them in a box or basket and have someone reach in and pull something out. Then use that for your subject. Sounded like a fun way to get your subject matter. I could see that working really well for a household like yours where your children are creative and enjoy helping you out with 365. Have fun!!

Very nicely done

@sanera Thanks Samantha- see the above comment to Crickle for a good way to choose one- your kids will enjoy helping you! @sarasdadandmom Thanks Terry!

what a nice way to take on a challenge! and paying tribute to friends, too. that flame looks so real i can almost feel the heat. great shot! and processing, too!

i can't believe we're down to the last 10 days. and i still don't know how or what photo i can take to celebrate that milestone. i enjoy taking photographs but the project is time consuming. i can probably do a weekly upload but i don't want to flood people's dashboards with my photos. i do intend to take on an ace account because after a year, i feel i should at least give a bit of financial support to the website; perhaps start the second year with a second album. yay! 10 days to decide!

@bkbinthecity Thanks bkb!!

@summerfield Thanks Summerfield. I know 10 days- incredible. I know I will still post. I will probably do daily still- it's the commenting that has been so time consuming to me, so that's what I'm trying to figure out as to how much to take on. There's still time, so I keep thinking! As for the last shot- who knows!!

@potsbypam Thank you Pam- you are very sweet. I hope to continue- it's the commenting that I'm wondering how much I'll be able to keep up on. Quite frankly I really can't imagine not being on 365 and you and so many others have become very dear to me!
December 22nd, 2011
@digitalrn Thanks Rick- I'm looking forward to this challenge.
@cimes1 Thank you so much Carole for those kind words. I have really grown to love and appreciate this community in many ways and really don't plan to leave. It's the commenting time that I may have to adjust, so I'm beginning to think that through. Thank you again for those lovely sentiments!

Beautiful! Love the light! I hope you will stay! I'm a couple of months into my second year now, and I have found a bit of balance now, it's a huge change and I can't imagine now that I did comment on a hundred pictures a day at the end of year one...
December 22nd, 2011
Very creative Ann, and I really like the glow from the candles.
December 22nd, 2011
Maybe you could find a way to include your husband in the challenge, you could take a walk together every day and find a subject on the walk

I love your picture and what you wrote along with it
December 22nd, 2011

@nicolecampbell Thank you Nicole!
@pandorasecho Thank you Dixie- Jeff does help if I'm torn between a few pictures. He's my "second opinion" quite often. But the walk is a good idea too.
@bruni Thank you Bruni!
@alia_801 Thank you Alia! I enjoy your challenges! And that means so much to me!
@flydragon Thank you so much Flydragon- I am truly touched by your words.
