Light  by olivetreeann

Light

Light of the World

You are the light of the world!
You are the light of the world!
But if that light is under a bushel,
It's lost something kind of crucial
You've got to stay bright to be the light of the world

You are the salt of the earth
You are the salt of the earth
But if that salt has lost it's flavor
It ain't got much in its favor
You can't have that fault and be the salt of the earth!

(chorus)
So let your light so shine before men
Let your light so shine
So that they might know some kindness again
We all need help to feel fine

You are the city of God
You are the city of God
But if that city's on a hill
It's kinda hard to hide it well
You've got to stay pretty in the city of God

(chorus)
So let your light so shine before men
Let your light so shine
So that they might know some kindness again
We all need help to feel fine

You are the light of the world
You are the light of the world
But the tallest candlestick
Ain't much good without a wick
You've got to live right to be the light of the world

No special editing for this- just a little sharpening.
Great shot, really like the colors and the texture of the lampshade.

Great lighting

Nice capture. You could add it to this weeks theme.

@rhubbard Thanks Rich!
@mrssmith Thanks Carla! I'm dating myself- but Godspell was one of the brightest shows on Broadway when I was in high school. Our youth group used Day By Day in a Sunday morning service, and I just read that it made #13 on Billboard when I was looking up the lyrics to copy. Can you imagine that on top 40 now?!
@kerristephens Thanks Kerri!
@cortens Thanks Julie- I already did the teapot and this is more orange than yellow I think.

Beautiful, Ann. Thanks for lighting up my world. :)

Fun! And my husband and I met carpooling to Godspell rehearsals so that show has a special place in our hearts

@karenann Thank you Karenann- busy day! When I got home I had to take my shot with the Nikon and ended up walking around the house thinking, "What haven't I taken a shot of yet that matches something on the Treasure Hunt list!?"
@pandorasecho Thanks Dixie- I'm glad it brought back some great memories!

Great imagination Ann....I need to pick up ideas from your postings!!!
It seems like the most simple things can make such beautiful pictures and of course you have good titles for them....You are so good!!!

@pulguis Thank you Pulguis, that is very kind of you! Sometimes "seeing" these things is a matter of taking a second look. This is a lamp in my living room. I looked at it and thought, "what are some different ways I could take a picture of this and make it look interesting?" I stood there for about 5 minutes and just moved the camera around to see different angles. And you can do that with anything. Take your rose for example. You can take a picture of it from overhead- straight into the center of the flower. But have you ever tried shooting it from underneath? How about only part of the flower? There's all kinds of angles to test out. So when you're shooting something in the coming days, don't limit yourself to 1 or 2 shots. Take 10 or 12. The great thing about digital is you can delete what doesn't work or the ones you don't use. So experiment! Also- this shot and all the others this month are part of a "treasure hunt" challenge. There is a list of about 30 items to "find" and photograph. So, I can't say that this was something I thought up completely on my own. I find that these challenges can also help spur your creativity and you might want to try one sometime.

Very nice shot. This one could be a weekly theme shot as well. I love that passage of Scripture. I have never heard this song before. Now I have learned a new one thanks for sharing it

oh, I really like this!I am a simple mind and I love simple shots. I think the winning choices in this shot are lighting and focus which adds a lot to it

@bkbinthecity Thanks Brian- it's from the musical Godspell which was very popular on Broadway in the 70's and was later made into a movie. You can see clips of it on YouTube- probably amateur productions of it, but you'll still be able to hear the song. It's fun and upbeat.
@woot Thanks Davide. I hadn't planned out this shot, but was trying to look at the lamp/light in a new way by moving the camera all around and snapping all along. This lamp gives off a very warm and inviting light, and it really shows in this shot.
@inertie Thanks Inertia- I loved this song as a teen and it's funny how music can help you to remember to make the right choices and influence the way you live. The words come out of the Bible, but every time I hear those words, I think of this song!
@sarasdadandmom Thanks Terry!
@adobewaters Thanks Adobe- it's really sooc. The lamp really does give off that beautiful warm glow.
@nicolecampbell Thanks Nicole!
@alia_801 Thanks Alia!
@prttblues Thanks Bev- lol

Ann, the lighting is awesome, and how fitting to have these words accompany your photo. Nice job.

@digitalrn Thanks Rick!
@twinsplusone Thanks Sharon!
I enjoy finding new ways to look at the things I see all the time, but don't always "see" if you know what I mean!
