There a thousand better moon shots than this one here on 365, but this one was a personal milestone for me- a focused and steady shot, zoomed in on the moon to the highest degree with my point and shoot camera- which usually does a terrible job in this kind of situation! I had been bringing wood into the house last night and noticed the New Moon resting in the sky just above my roof line. Nestled in the trees was a bright "star" which I'm assuming was Venus or another planet. It's hard to see it here, because of the limitations of my camera, but it was such a pretty sight I just had to try and capture it. This will never make my top 10 shots, or even my top 100, but I was so happy it finally "clicked", I just had to post it!
i tried this last night and it was epic fail - can't get moon and planet/star in one shot - where i am is too noisy - main artery, you know. so let's be happy with this. in fact, i am very happy with this just because you took it.
@shru29 Thank you Shru! I appreciate your stopping by! @sarasdadandmom Thanks Terry! @kerristephens Thanks Kerri! @karenann Thanks Karenann! @adobewaters Thanks Adobe! @summerfield Thanks Vikki! Took about 20 shots, 4 were acceptable and out of those 4 this was the best. @geertje Thanks Geertje. I also took some with my 35mm. Can't wait to see how they turned out! @httpgeffed Thanks Colleen- me neither- our world is truly a fascinating place. @dmariewms Thank you Marie. This is actually fairly true to size. I did take a few more shots with my 35mm, which has a better zoom, so it will be intersting to see how they come out. @digitalrn Thank you Rick! @sgoodin1 Thank you Sara. In the past I've tried holding the camera and trying to hold my breath will I pulled the 'trigger". This time, instead of holding the camera out, I used the view finder and held it up to my eyes. It gave me a more stable way to hold the camera I think. @woot Thanks Davide! @pandorasecho Thanks Dixie- and the nice thing was if none of them came out, all I had to do was hit "delete"!
@bkbinthecity Thanks Brian- it worked this time when I didn't expect it to, but I think that was due to the fact that I held the camera up to my eye, rather than holding it out in front of me. It just gave me that added stability. Anyway I was happy with the outcome.
Excellent shot! Yes, that's Venus you got there. Jupiter is up near the moon. The next few days you can get some incredible shots of the moon and stars combined. Great capture! I love the tree's silhouette against the sky. Nicely done you!
@peterdegraaff Thank you Peter! @mrssmith Thank you Carla! @cortens Thank you Julie! @twinsplusone Thank you Sharon! @deniseinindy Thank you Denise! @bruni Thank you Bruni! @eudora Thank you Diane! @prttblues Thank you Bev! And thanks for the info- I was pretty sure both of them were up there, but wasn't sure of the positions. @allie912 Thank you Allison. Usually I have hand motion in these shots- but this time I used the viewfinder rather than holding out the camera in front of me. I think that made the difference. @nicolecampbell Thank you Nicole! @steeler Thank you Howard!
Thank you everyone for such great feedback. I would love one of those shots where you can see every detail of the surface, but I don't have that kind of camera! So, this is one I'm pleased to have- and all the more thanks to your kind words.
@louisefrance Thanks Louise. I don't usually get good ones with my little camera, but this time I held the view finder up to my eye rather than using the review screen on the back and holding the camera out in front of me. I think that made the difference. I had more stability that way and didn't catch any movement on my part that way. Give it a try Louise and see what happens.
i like this alot! the color of the sky is so pretty and I actually prefer a partial moon to a full one. the silhouettes of the trees round this shot out nicely! well done!
@paulaag Thank you Paula. I love the shots I see that have been taken with better cameras, but I've learned to work with this one and accept it for what it can do. Actually it does macro shots quite nicely. Thanks for the view and comment! I really appreciate it!
@lisjam1 Thanks Lisa- yes it has and the added bonus of two planets nearby has me staring at it on each clear night for at least 10 minutes when I bring the bird feeder in (so the critters don't raid it).
@sanera Thanks Samantha- I was so pleased that my little p & s did a decent job on this. The moon and planets are in different parts of the sky now- so the window of opportunity was short-lived.
