According to my dictionary the official definition of a neighborhood is "a district or area with distinctive characteristics". Here is my little neighborhood with its distinctive woodland traits. Our neighbors range from the feathered kind to the human kind, and on the whole we're very happy in our little mountaintop home (which is in the center of this picture).
And for those of you who are mourning the upcoming loss of Picnik, I processed this one in iPiccy.com and was really pleased with their programs and ease of use. Best of all- it's free.
What a lovely shot of your home and neighborhood! Just gorgeous! I love all the trees. Thanks for the tip about iPiccy.com. I am so anxious about Picnik going away soon!
Love your neighborhood and your home, Ann. It's a beautifully wooded area . . love that. New developed areas never have many trees. Great pov of the neighboord and lovely soft color tones. I wrote the iPiccy address down. Thank you for sharing that.
a neighbourhood perfect for writing. i could just sit by the window and write all day if i'm not staring at all the trees around. lovely processing, too. it's scary but today i was trying iPiccy and find that it is in some ways similar to picnik. i've tried pixlr and gimp but ipiccy is a lot easier to deal with. just that they don't have (or at least i haven't discovered yet) the mirror frame function. :-(
@deniseinindy Thank you Denise- I learned about iPiccy from one of my followers. When someone shares great info with me, I'm really glad to pass it on to others. @bkbinthecity thanks Brian! @kimmistephens Thanks Kimmi! @karenann Thanks Karenann! I think you'll like it- it's very similar to Picnik and has most of the same features plus a few others that Picnik didn't have. It's set up a little differently but is just as easy to use. @summerfield Thanks VIkki- yes, it's a wonderful place to write- especially in the Spring and Fall- windows open, nice temps and little birdies singing all day. I tried pixlr but it was too complicated for me, didn't try gimp, but iPiccy was so easy to use, I'll probably stick with it. I did see the mirror frame feature, I'm not sure where it was listed, but it's not laid out like Picnik so I don't remember where it was. If I find it, I'll put it on a picture for you!
Excellent photo! If I was to do a photo of my new neighborhood I would have to include all the strip malls! :) This is lovely! I will have to try out the new editing site!
This is a beautiful neighborhood. I have never processed on picnic or anything but the basic boost of saturation on iPhoto Getting interested though so thanks for the suggestion
Love the setting..all surrounded by nice big trees and your home looks lovely in the mids of it.. our little town has two parts so to speak off..the south side where we live used to be cottage country with hugh trees and then there is the new part of town..subdivisions..one house next to the each other with no trees..will take years for new planted ones to grow..I prefer the old charm. by now most cottages have been made into permanent homes or new houseswere built on the lot. we bought it with a small cottage and outhouse..and built our own home in 1987.
@httpgeffed Thanks Colleen- glad to pass on the info as it was passed on to me! @kerristephens Thanks Kerri! @potsbypam Thanks Pam! @nicolecampbell Thank you Nicole! @peterdegraaff Thank you Peter! We live on the eastern side of Pennsylvania, in a region known as The Poconos. The nearest town to us is Stroudsburg/East Stroudsbug. We are also near a very famous natural landmark known as The Delaware Water Gap. The Delaware River runs between Pennsylvania and New Jersey and in this spot it carved a very sharp turn between the mountains on either side. And yes, this is the HDR effect in iPiccy. You can adjust the intensity of it, so I faded in more of my shot and less of the effect. But I was really pleased with the effect on the whole.
@elaina047 Thank you so much Elaina! @louisefrance Thank you Louise! @alia_801 Thank you Alia- I think they're HDR effect is actually nicer than the one on Picnik- I still have a bunch more to try out- which I will probably do over the next week! @woot Thanks Davide- yes we are very blessed! @jenp Thanks Jennifer! The trees are quite pretty around here- especially in the fall. Many are "young" trees because in the 1700's many were cut down to make room for farming. As the farming decreased, the woods were allowed to grow back.
@pandorasecho Thanks Dixie- I do try not to over process because I definitely like playing with all the effects. So I try to stay away from it, but it really is fun! @twinsplusone Thanks Sharon- yes we love them too. It is a very beautiful place to live. @bruni Thank you Bruni- this area has had three major growth spurts where building is concerned. The first was in the early 70's which brought an influx of vacation homes. The second was in the late 80's, and at that time, many of the homes which were built were less like vacation homes, and more like permanent homes- but the bulk of them were still a secondary home. After that things sort of evened out for a while, but after 9-11, people moved out this way in droves and many vacation homes were made into permanent homes and new homes were built. The roads and schools were not really set up to take all the new people, so a lot of things are topsy-turvy now- especially the taxes! But it's still a nice place to live- especially if you like the mountains and wildlife. @sarasdadandmom Thanks Terry!
@la_photographic Thanks Laura- I think that is a result of the HDR processing. I'm not an expert on what it is exactly, but I know it involves layering the picture which would definitely give you more depth- or the 3D effect.
@cimes1 Thanks Carole! Yes, I think you'll like iPiccy- it's very similar to Picnik- just organized in a slightly different way, but you'll be able to find everything quite easily. Allison Williams had mentioned it to me and so I'm glad to pass it on to others. Isn't 365 great that way? (o:
@crickle1969 Thanks Crickle! I really like the HDR feature on iPiccy. I saw the picmonkey info posted on the home page yesterday and was fooling around with that last night. It's a lot like Picnik- I mean A LOT like Picnik- which I think will win over people right away. I hadn't heard of befunky, so I will definitely check that one out too. I can see myself using them all for different reasons- so this is nice to have a choice now! Thanks for passing that along.
