I was going to post Edward Lear's poem "The Owl and the Pussycat" to go with this one, but I'm dashing off to spend a few hours scrapbooking with some friends, so you'll have to look it up yourselves! I'll catch up on all your lovely shots tomorrow.
Addendum:
The Owl and the Pussycat went to sea
In a beautiful pea green boat,
They took some honey, and plenty of money,
Wrapped up in a five pound note.
The Owl looked up to the stars above,
And sang to a small guitar,
'O lovely Pussy! O Pussy my love,
What a beautiful Pussy you are, you are, you are!
What a beautiful Pussy you are!'
Pussy said to the Owl, 'You elegant fowl!
How charmingly sweet you sing!
O let us be married! Too long we have tarried;
But what shall we do for a ring?'
They sailed away, for a year and a day,
To the land where the Bong-tree grows
And there in the wood a Piggy-wig stood
With a ring at the end of his nose, his nose, his nose,
With a ring at the end of his nose.
'Dear pig, are you willing to sell for one shilling
Your ring?' Said the Piggy, 'I will.'
So they took it away, and were married the next day
By the Turkey who lives on the hill.
They dined on mince, and slices of quince,
Which they ate with a runcible spoon;
And hand in hand, on the edge of the sand,
They danced by the light of the moon, the moon, the moon,
They danced by the light of the moon.
Thank you one and all and apologies for the mass thank you- this allows me more time to view your pictures though!
For those who asked, this is a spoon rest! It was given to me as a wedding present (remember when you could give affordable even inexpensive wedding gifts and it wasn't an affront to the happy couple?) from a high school friend. I've had it all these years and it's usually on display somewhere in the kitchen as I use another spoon rest my mom gave me when I was engaged on the stove. Oh, yes, if you've been following me a while you know that EVERY object in my house has a story attached to it!!! One friend lovingly calls our house "The LeFevre Museum" for that very reason. Glad you all liked him.
@netkonnexion Thank you Damon! I'm not sure if I know the 'eyes' principle. All I can think of is "the eyes have it"! (But that's really supposed to be 'ayes' for yes in a vote.)
SO cute, Ann. . .I gave up on the Owl or Pussycat and used one of the alternatives. I've really enjoyed the challenge so far and have been surprised at how inspiration will sometimes finally hit when I've just about given up.
@la_photographic Thank you Laura! I remember memorizing that poem for school many many years ago! But now I don't remember all the words. Thankfully the internet is a wealth of information!
@wenbow Thank you Wendy! We had a real live Screech Owl in the woods behind our house this summer. It was fun to hear him "screeching" in the evening. Happy fellow he was.

And I'm adding the poem in above for Colleen.
