Ordinary or Extraordinary

Extraordinary: 1) Beyond what is ordinary or usual. 2) Highly exceptional; remarkable.

Sometimes seeds take root in the most extraordinary places!
Amazing - looks as if it has just grown there in the last day or so!

@maggiemae Thanks Maggie! Yes, we've had a few warm days and suddenly things are sprouting up again. This one is growing out from in between the bark and core of a piece of wood for our woodstove.

Well done!

I took a few shot in the last few days of growth in the midst of a rotting stump, amazing, isn't it how things grow.

That is very cool! Love the delicacy of the shoot against the strong textures of the wood.

It is amazing how they can grow out of the smallest of spaces.
October 22nd, 2012
@nadaa thanks Nada! The ankle is healing- slow and steady. I forced myself to stay off it today so I think that helped.
@annaruth thanks Anna! It was a little surprise to see it growing out of the wood!
@worthitall thanks Rashella! I saw it and knew it'd be a shot to post.
@pjonas thanks Patty! Yes, a delightful little surprise.
@nicolecampbell thanks Nicole- what really surprised me is how much it had grown! I would have expected it to not have enough nutrients.

What a cool shot. Very surprising to see something growing like that.
October 22nd, 2012
Isn't nature just amazing! Beautiful contrast between the green and brown of the wood.

Thank you Henri, Sally, Livia, Damon, Graham, Alia, Dione and Wendy! I'm grateful for all your faithful comments and am pleased you took as much surprise and delight in this persistent plant as much as I did!
October 22nd, 2012
I can't always understand why some plants will grow in the oddest places, yet some plants won't grow at all where I want them to grow. Great capture and definitions as well.
October 22nd, 2012
Wow, great capture!
October 22nd, 2012
I love it when this happens. Growth is an imperative - just look at how plants find any crack in cement. Great catch!
October 22nd, 2012
Lovely colours and capture of detail and textures.

Bev
Very nice eye! You spotted it and it's so green compared to the tree and the mushrooms growing out of it. Nice shot! Great focus! Well done!
October 22nd, 2012
extraordinary, indeed! lovely against the rough texture.
October 23rd, 2012
@mrssmith thanks Carla! So true! Crazy how they sometimes decide on the oddest places and other times won't grow in million dollar dirt!
@mhatch thanks Mark!
@dmariewms thanks Marie! That always makes me laugh because they'll grow there but not in my rocky soil. What's the difference?
@kandernob thanks Karen!
@prttblues thanks Bev!

@summerfield Thanks Vikki! It looks like we may be coming up the first weekend in November. But I don't think my passport will be renewed in time. I think I need it now to cross the border. In the past your driver's license was enough. So, if we do meet, it may mean we meet on the US side. I am trying to pin Jeff down with dates, but as usual he is reluctant to commit to anything! He just never knows what may hold him up when he has to work around other contractors. This is a large job so there are a few of them as well as the homeowners. I will keep you posted and hopefully have something more sure by Friday. As for next month's challenge, I think I will be joining Bulldog's "list". Right now he's taking submissions for words to shoot. It sounds like it's going to be all over the place and a lot of fun. I can't remember what he's calling it, but I'll find it and tag you on it so you can see.
October 23rd, 2012
@olivetreeann - yes, you do need a passport to cross the border. as i have my just renewed passport, i can just walk the bridge to your side. i may just take the train as partner has some extra work in november. yes, please keep me posted.

as for november, i like dixie's challenge so i will do that for november just to keep me on my toes. i don't want to start a challenge on my own. i'm really in awe of you guys when you run a challenge. i'm still tired from running the AC hahaha let alone make up a new one. i think the other challenge is called nominate 4 november. i saw that one, too. i may join it, too, and see if i can combine dixie's with it. if not, i'll do it by the day when i have something relevant to the word. thanks, ann.

@summerfield Sounds good on all accounts! Just saw Dixie's post and I'm going to do that for one week in my second album. I've done two challenges in two albums and don't really like getting locked in two at a time.

We see this quite often when walking in the woods or even inbetween my flowers under the tree where the birds drop sunflower seeds. we actually had some very small sunflowers blooming there... yes it's extraordinary.
October 23rd, 2012
@bruni Thanks Bruni- I have a feeling that's what this is because my birdfeeder always has sunflower seeds in it and the birds love to crack them open on the wood piles. But I don't think this one will make after the next frost. Too bad.
