Had to make my shots quickly today since I was working on a huge project for church. Here in the Poconos many homes are sided with a wood product called T-11. It looks somewhat like paneling and fits well with the environment. Jeff would really like to take it off our chimney though as the woodpeckers tend to think it's there for them to attract mates with! Unfortunately we don't have the funds to replace the T-11 with fieldstone, but if we could that's what we'd do.
@httpgeffed Thank you Colleen- It begins Feb. 13th. @henrir Thank you Henri! @daisy Thank you Kathryn! Yes, Feb. 13th is Ash Wednesday. @digitalrn Thanks Rick! At times it is, but thankfully we also have plenty of trees about that make some nice tones as well, so once we've scared them off enough they take to the trees instead. @bruni Thank you Bruni! They don't really bother us while we're sleeping. What we learned is that when they are mating or marking their territory they like things which make the noise echo. Apparently the wood encased chimney pipes resonate quite nicely, so the woodpeckers like to use them for that reason.
Thank you Alia (they like the very top- but usually only one at a time), Nicole (it's my house!), Dione (the beginning of a winter sunset) and Bev (no matter how hard I tried the camera kept tilting it- couldn't get it straight so that part of the shot is driving me crazy!).
@automaticslim Thank you Andy! It's just the angle. It's a rather basic Cathedral ceiling line interrupted by the chimney. The roof line of the church was far more interesting. @jackie8 Thank you Jackie! The sun has been playing cat and mouse with us all winter. @summerfield Thanks Vikki- no porthole (haha) just two ugly octagonal windows that flank the fireplace. They came with the house and I would not have chosen them if I was the one building- but I do like the extra light they bring into the room. The picture is deceiving as far as the roof line goes. It's really a simple Cathedral ceiling intersected by the chimney. The angle makes it much more interesting than it really is.

Hehe - I'm picturing a little woodpecker orchestra having a concert there after reading your comment above...
