Filler alert! Time to catch up again. No need to comment on all...
From our visit to Aspen Ridge Farm- one of the trained watch dogs. They keep hawks and other preditors from snatching the chickens up for dinner. He may look bored right now, but the right silhouette in the sky or movement in the woods and he's on the job!
I think the dog is a Great Pyrenees which our yellow dog Jake was - well partly anyway and a few other breeds too. I love the way he is just laying there guarding his chickens. They are wonderful dogs - just too much hair!
@stownsend I think you're right Suzie- and he's only an outdoor dog so they don't have to worry about hair.
@golftragic I think he's a Great Pyrenees as Suzie suggested.
@lyndamcg There are two dogs in training which can't be left alone with the chickens just yet. For 90% of the time they guard but every now and then the "puppy" in them takes over and they go after the chickens! So until they won't do that anymore they can only be in with the chickens when the farmer is there.
I'm sure this is a Maremma dog which are natural guard dogs specially for birds! We have 2 trained ones here on our island where the little penguins live. So I agree with Marnie @golftragic :)
