A black and white version of the little vase I posted the other day. I think this is what I will bring to the critique group on Thursday night. At least that's what I think today!
I'm hosting a meeting at my home tonight, so posting a bit early. See you tomorrow!
Excellent, lovely use of negative space, but I do prefer the colour version. I am a big fan of black and white, but flowers always look better in colour I think.
Many thanks to all of you! I have been quite busy over the last few days hence my belated response. I really enjoyed reading the feedback and agreed with all of you who preferred the black and white version- I thought it did all the things you said it did. And while flowers do look pretty in color a majority of the time, this one, I thought held its own in black and white because it drew out the texture of the seeds.
As for the critique group, I ended up not bringing it! I ended up bringing one of my older shots from my visit to Bent's Theater in Medina NY back in 2015. There is something about that shot that has always made it a favorite of mine. The negative space is not as obvious as it is in this shot, but the lighting and texture is so nice. It's funny how we get used to taking a shot a day and don't realize how our skill is improving through the years but is! When I was looking for the digital file to reload into my computer I took another look at the composition and decided I didn't like a few small things on the right side of the shot and on the top so I cropped them out. What a difference!! The picture was received well and as a quirky side note- turns out one of the other photographers brought a picture of the same kind of flower in the above shot! Glad I decided to go with something from the past!
