Our niece Katie came to visit us this weekend. I've featured her in pictures on 365 before (4/16/2011- "Into the Woods" and 11/20/2011- "Dancing With Beethoven") when she has appeared in different stage productions on her college campus. This weekend we celebrated her acceptance to Merrimont College in Manhattan. She will continue her studies in voice and theater "just around the corner" from the theater district. I have always had it in the back of my mind to pass on some very special apparel to Katie. These beautiful garments had belonged to my grandmother on my mother's side. My favorite of the three pieces I gave to Katie was this beautiful beaded sweater. I can't imagine how many hours it took some artisan to design and sew this intricate pattern on to the the lovely blue wool, but I always admired its beauty. And although I knew it would never fit me, I'd kept it all these years. As we talked Friday night, I realized it was the perfect time to bring it out and have her try it on. It fit beautifully!! And so another word comes off my treasure hunt list!
She's gorgeous, Ann! The sweater seems like it was made for her. It was meant for her to have, I'm sure. It's a piece of art and suits the field that she is entering in college. Wonderful collage and great memories for you both.
that is beautiful..in every sense of the word. and is it coincidence that it matches katie's beautiful smile? wow! great close up shots and great portrait of katie. you rock, ann!
Beautiful photo, beautiful niece and beautiful sweater. How thoughtful and generous of you to give her such a gift - a treasure really. It's so wonderful that you kept it. I hope she treasures it as much as you have.
@kerristephens Thank you Kerri! @karenann Thank you Karenann- yes, the way it fit so well, you would think it was made for her! @summerfield Thank you VIkki- I did the cloning thing again- this time taking out so distracting dinner trays in the background.
@pandorasecho Thanks Dixie! @nanascraps Thank you Barbara- yes, Katie knows the value of it and is absolutely thrilled. I know she'll take good care of it because she loves vintage clothing. She couldn't believe I wanted her to have it at first. So, yes, it was great to see it go to someone who will treasure it and take care of it.
What a wonderful garment, you have photographed it beautifully to show us the detail and what it looks like hanging and being worn. Your niece looks lovely and very appreciative.
Thank you all- yes, it really is a piece of art in many ways. The beading is truly elaborate. And I know Katie will be treasuring it for a long time to come.
Yes, I remember your niece in the inspiring photo Dancing with Beethoven. Congrats on her acceptance to Marimont. What an honor and what fun to be close to the theatre district. The beaded sweater is so beautiful and how nice to pass it down to her. Sweet!
@cimes1 Thank you Carole. I showed her all the well-wishes on that photo and she was so excited to see them. She's thrilled with this sweater and the other two things I gave her and I'm thrilled they will now be worn again!
Nice for you to pass this on to Katie..she looks beautiful in it. and the close up in you collage let us imagine the artristy involved in making this piece.
