Saucer Run at Coolidge Avenue by olivetreeann

Saucer Run at Coolidge Avenue

Another shot from the archives that captures "joy" to me. My Dad was famous for his saucer runs. This one seems to be on the short side- but then when I look at my cousin and I, a short run was probably all we could handle! Later on as we got older the run would begin at the farthest corner of our back yard, wind its way around the side of the house and end with a crash landing in the hedge row in the front yard. We screamed with glee the whole way 'round of course!
Who cares when you crash at that age! I can see the anticipation in the faces!

@maggiemae Thanks Maggie! Well at this age (probably 5) we did care, but at 10, 11 and 12, it was wheeeee! all the way!

So in Texas our version of this would be a long run of plastic with several garden hoses and maybe some dish soap!

@prttblues Thanks Bev- I know. I do treasure my family. My cousin (sister to the cousin in this shot) is actually the one who uploaded this to facebook and then I copied it to my computer.
@jplovescotton Thanks Janice!

Such a good idea to scan in these older photos -- filled with memories. I did something similar for a birthday book for my mom a few months ago. Just finding the old images and the memories they prompted was great.

That was one of those metal saucers wasn't it? We used to have them too, and I took a wild ride on that one Winter. Wow!

You must have had so much fun, I can only imagine days like this. It may get very cold in Canberra but it rarely snows.

@digitalrn Thanks Rick! Oh yes, they really were the best- sooo fast. Hmmm... maybe that's where my enjoyment of driving fast things comes from!

@olivetreeann - yikes indeed! my passport has 4 more years so if and when we do a meet up i'll have to be the one to cross the border.

@olivetreeann - there's a bridge where there's a footpath so partner can drop me off, i cross and you wait for me on the other side and partner can amuse himself at the casino - i'll give him my $20 hahaha!
