The Sky's the Limit

One thing that struck me today in my reading was the idea of how one chooses to use black and white or color when taking a photo. I had noticed these interesting clouds in the sky today and took a shot in color because I thought the white puffy clouds looked so pretty against the blue sky. But wondered what effect changing them to black and white might have. So here you get to see the comparison. As Peterson had noted, the black and white version is much more emotional- very moody and certainly has a darker feel to it.
I can see what you mean - this is a very simple example but shows the theory so well!

@maggiemae Thanks Maggie- it's even more apparent when you can look at them individually.

@kporte Thanks Keith! This was fun to actually see the theory come to life.

Thanks for posting both photos Ann, I am instantly drawn to the b&w version. Great composition too.

I often find that in B/W you find some detail that is often missed in color.

beautiful

feel more bleak in b&w.

Great shot for the comparison - the two pics do have very different feels.

Your diptych display illustrates the difference so effectively!

Very nice. I usually like coloured versions but the b&w is as lovely as the othe one.

I agree. The black and white is moody. But I like the color one. The blue is so inviting.

Nice shot, Ann. Both are very lovely. The b&w has more texture I think - because there is no color. I think it makes the tree seem darker as well. Well done

@mrssmith203 Thanks Carla! Yes, I'm partial to the color too. And blue sky has been such a rare occasion here lately.
@prttblues Thanks Bev! It does look good in black and white, but I've missed seeing blue skies so much, I definitely prefer the color.

Both shots are beautiful. The BW creates a different mood (a darker mood) than the color does.

@daisymiller Thanks Daisy! That's what I thought too.
