There are times when I wonder how my father survived all those years with three girls growing up in his home. Each of us had our own distinct personalities and personal likes and dislikes. I was the dreamer, Diana (far left) was the out-going one, and Kim (center) was the "little mother". We could be the best of friends and the worst of enemies. Fortunately for us, we were never asked to be anything but what we were. And though there were times when our paths veered in different directions, they always seem to converge at critical points when family matters most. We are comrades, cheerleaders and cohorts.
Diana and Kim could drive me crazy (like when they spied on me and my boyfriend and teased me later), but I could drive them crazy too- especially when I was left in charge. There could be fireworks between us (Mom! Diana's bothering me again!) but we also knew how to entertain and surprise each other (like the Barbie Birthday Treasure Hunt Diana and I concocted for one of Kim's birthdays). We wanted to be independent of each other (You're not my REAL sister. Mom and Dad adopted you!) but could always rely on each other in a pinch (One dark and stormy night- really! It was a dark and stormy night! Diana and I watched a Rod Serling Sci-fi show that had us clinging to one another when a loud thunder clap coincided with the climax of the show).
Diana and I complained to each other about our "spoiled" little sister when she was given things (like a stereo) years earlier than we were allowed. But there was something special in the way Kim would wait for me on our front steps with Pepper (our dog) to greet me when I walked home from High School. I must have seemed so grown-up to her with our seven year age difference. It's funny how time erases that difference as we get older.
As youngsters we never fully appreciated each other. As adults, through the early death of our mother and the more recent death of our father, we have come to treasure each other as only sisters can.
This is a rare shot- I'm the one who's hamming it up here. That was usually Diana's thing!
Just glad you know how lucky you were to have each other. I always wanted a sister and sometimes think maybe I married Greg so I could claim his three.
Sweet photo, Ann. If you thought your dad had it bad, mine had it worse ... 5 girls!! The only male in the house was the dog. You are lucky to have such a close relationship with your sisters. I wish I could say I had one with mine but . . . Anyway, great memories you have. I think all sisters at one time or another tell the other they are adopted.
Love this! It's exactly what I needed to read this morning before getting the girls up and going. Your sister Diane looks just like me as a little girl. Amazing. I'll show my girls tonight. :) Happy day to you.
Ann, I enjoyed reading about your memories and the tales about you three girls. you were very close even then. will check out some more of your pictures. sorry, but I never make it on a daily basic. life is just too hectic at times.
Just showed my daughter and asked "who is this"? Reply - "is it you?" Me - "No" Molly - "Is it me?" Ha!! She looks just like me when I was a child, just different coloring! Molly says "Is she nice? She'd better be!" Good times. Tell Diana we said Hello!
@pyrrhula Thank you Prryhula! It's tricky with some of these old photos. They are either over exposed to begin with or over time they've faded or both. Some breathing some life into them without ruining the realism of it takes a bit of creativity! I'm glad my Smart Photo Editor has all the options it does. Although it takes some time to find the right one, when you do it really makes the picture look great!
@kt8ird Thank you Kate! You can tell your daughter that Diana is a great sister and definitely a very nice person! I'll pass along your story the next time we talk.
that's a beautiful narrative about you and your sisters. i have three crazy ones all younger and they never let me forget who's younger. i let them remind me because when we're together all i see are old women, older than me. hahaha! sisters!
Thank you Kerri, Dixie, Edie, Bev, Joyce, Katie, Rick, Nicole, Terry, and Bruni! I'm glad you enjoyed my ramblings and the picture!
@bruni Not to worry Bruni! I'm a bit behind returning comments at the moment for the same reason- life gets in the way!

@vesna0210 Thank you Vesna!
