The Gourd is Growing

My gourd is a smaller than a tennis ball but larger than a ping pong ball right now and "he" has a little "sister" growing further up the vine. With the weather being so warm and all the rain we've had, I think they might be a good size by the time the first frost arrives. We'll see...the weather has been so unpredictable I have no idea what to expect!
Good one. Terrific to see how it is growing.

I'm glad the gourd is doing well. What do you do with them? It will be interesting to see it again when it has grown up. I like the little twirl hanging down by the stem at the top of the gourd.

@grammyn @Dawn Thanks Katy, thanks Dawn!

@littleconnie Thank you Connie! I'm not sure what you mean by "do you know what it is?" I don't know if this kind has a specific name or not. I'll have to ask the farmer I bought it from at the Farmer's Market. Is that what you meant?

@robz @helenhall Thanks Rob! Thanks Helen! These gourds are only decorative. Most people get them in different colors and shapes and put them in a bowl during the fall months. Here are a couple shots from the Farmer's Market to give you an idea of the variety.

@louannwarren @onewing @kerristephens @wag864 @pyrrhula @henrir

Thank you Lou Ann, Babs, Kerri, Kas, Ferry, and Henri!

@wendyfrost Thank you Wendy! I don't think gourds have a sex to them. I just used the personal pronouns for fun in describing the two that are growing. This vine started from one seed that the chipmunks failed to eat.

Beautiful -- love the vivid processing.

@olivetreeann I wondered if it was a pumpkin or a melon of some sort.

Fun to be able to watch it grow

@taffy Thanks Taffy!
@littleconnie Ohhh! No, gourds are gourds, but I think they are in the pumpkin family. Their vines are very similar. And some of them actually look like mini-pumpkins. I don't think any of them are edible though.
@salza Thanks Sally! It has been. I'm wondering how big it will get before the frost gets to it.
