Nothing pretty about these photos or what they depict. They simply serve to mark a scary chapter in our city's history. There is a man hunt underway for a fired L.A. police officer. He is disgruntled, highly trained and extremely dangerous.
This past Sunday, he shot and killed the daughter of a retired police captain and her fiance as they sat in their vehicle on the top level of a parking structure of their condo complex in a city south of Los Angeles. Then Wed night/Thurs morning, he shot three on-duty officers in two separate incidents, killing one of them.
He has threatened to kill other officers (including the current police chief) and their family members, and those identified persons have been under police guard since this all began. The cops are so on edge, that they shot two women who happened to be in a similar vehicle to the suspect's, in a neighborhood where one of the named targets lives. Luckily their injuries are not life threatening.
These photos are from the north side of the Los Angeles Police Headquarters (the west side of which has those LOVELY elephant lumps that I posted in my alternate album). Normally there are NO vehicles on this side of the building, as it's a No Stopping zone. Today it was weird to see so many police and media vehicles on the street and on the sidewalk. TV cameras and satellite dishes as far as the eye could see.
The building was also surrounded by many uniformed officers, standing guard around it.
These shots were all taken from my car as I circled round and round, trying to get decent vantage points. Most are from my phone, because my camera died early on.
As of this writing at 1pm Friday, Pacific time, the suspect is still at large. He abandoned his vehicle and set it on fire yesterday near a ski resort area in our local mountains, which resulted in local schools being put on lock down and the lifts being closed. Personally, I believe it was a diversion and he is far away, laughing at the man power being used to search the mountain. I dread seeing what his next move is.
Once again, I thank all of you who have commented and Fav'd my recent photos. I'm so sorry that I don't have the time to reply to you all personally.
Yes stay safe Rose. How frightening. Nothing like that happens in our hamlet - we have thefts of garden tools and wheelie bins but luckily that is about it for us. Be careful :)
Great collage and thanks for the info! Have been following this on the news. It is so sad concerning those he has hurt! Praying for him to be caught soon. Be careful and stay safe.
Oh my good gracious that is one scary story! I do hope they find him and he is sentenced for what he has done. Praying for all the families and friends affected in this terrible tragedy... stay safe my darling.
This has been such a sad story and hope that no one else is killed before he is found. Tonight they said that the manpower has been decreased in the search for him. Stay safe though who knows where he is and what he is thinking at this time.
@kathyladley@kbalychev This guy is nuts. He's not going to get caught. He'll end up going out in a fire fight with police officers and get killed in the process. I think that's what he wants now.
The collage works very well with your photos and narrative
