Assos, in northern Kefalonia, is one of the most attractive villages on the island. It was one of the centres of Venetian government during the 17th/18th centuries, and the Venetians left their mark on the architecture (some of which survived the 1953 earthquake) and in the Fort, the ruins of which can still be seen above the town. This shot shows the secluded harbour - one of the reasons it became a focus of development. The image was taken on my phone and cropped slightly in Photo Editor.
Many thanks for all your comments over the past few days, all are very much appreciated.
@onewing Thanks Babs, yes, Kefalonia is one of the few places we have ever gone to more than once (if you see what I mean). It's become one of our bolt holes. 😀
My dad was born in England and moved to Australia when he was 4. Over recent years he has been researching his family tree and discovered that he had a great grandmother who came from Kefalonia. He has been to visit twice, researching more about his family each time. From your photo, it looks like a beautiful place to visit.
