blue is the colour of lust - day five of the seven deadly sins challenge
"lust is the inordinate craving for the pleasures of the body." - (deadlysins.com).
we can include the inordinate desire of humans for other material things. lust is the sin from which all other deadly sins originate - you greed, you lust; you envy, you lust; you sloth, you lust; you glutton, you lust. didn't maddoff lust for money? didn't ghadaffi lust for power? didn't imelda marcos lust for her three thousand pairs of shoes?
i see no connection between the colour blue and lust. i think lust should be represented by the colour hot pink, if only because red is already taken by wrath. but i like the idea of an apple representing lust, because didn't eve lust to eat the apple after the snake tempted her? i included my pearl necklace because the apple by itself was boring; plus the necklace could represent the snake. why not? i would've wanted a risqué picture, but i have two young boys beside me on the dining table so i had to be a little bit creative. so, sorry, no lusty pics. :-)
(colour reference derived from www.deadlysins.com/sins/index.htm) (went picnik-ing so i can eat the apple.)
Very creative. The apple is perfect and the pearls actually reminded me of wealth which many people lust for. It is a good rep for the snake. Your comment was great
i had to stage this at the last minute because my original set up got foiled by my 'model' forgetting to wear what i wanted her to wear (a pair of blue shoes!). so until after supper, i still didn't have anything. this is like being in school - i draw blanks until the very last minute then kaboom! thank you, guys.
@roth - just trying to keep up with everyone's creativity around here. thanks, sue.
is the rosetta garden still looking nice? i plan to go there next weekend. if there's a nice coffee shop there, i'd like to meet you. would you like to?
stunning composition and i love what you wrote. very compelling. confusing, however, that blue is the color of lust and sloth - although you chose different shades of blue, i still find that odd. but, as said, subjective. blue is also my favorite color for most things. depends on what it is.
@jannkc - thanks, jann. i used to that in school. i'm not as artistic or creative as my siblings when we were in school and when they helped me, my ideas were not exactly in sync with theirs. arts assignments were my kryptonite. but come submission time, the ideas just pop in my head and i get the same grades as those who laboured for days. i guess i do work well under pressure. will it work again today?
@catsmeowb - thanks, camille. the deadlysins website confuses me, too. light blue and blue are the same to me, blue. but i suppose the challenge is to come up with an apt representation.
looking at the photo again this afternoon, i thought i did well in representing lust with this set up, in the same way i did with greed. i find this photograph rather provocative. The combination of the bitten apple, the velvet blue cloth and the pearl necklace provoke some kind of sensory thoughts.
@summerfield i applaud you. the pearls were a spectacular addition to the photo and that bitten apple, well, goes without saying. then, blue velvet, yummy. where did you get the idea to do this theme? very challenging, i would imagine. was it on the site or were you stretching yourself?
@catsmeowb - @danig suggested we do a challenge together and she came up with the seven deadly sins idea. she also posted the challenge in the discussion board and a few have joined in.
in a way it's stretching myself. however, i find it easier to have a theme rather than just post random photographs. i mean, i like to do that, too, but i like to shoot with purpose. yesterday, i plied the waterfront near my office and photographed too many sailboats and buildings and flowers. i know i could use them someday but it didn't serve me anything for the challenge of the day. and when i staged the shot above, i first started with the velvet blue cloth, pulled my sexy negligée, and i was sort of laughing at those thinking how i could've worn them (some of them were from 25 or so years ago hahahaha) and why i even keep them is beyond me! but i wanted to incorporate the bitten apple. when i looked at the photos, i found them blasé and the blue was almost lost. so i weeded out the props. when it was just the cloth and the apple, i threw in the necklace (see my photo on feb. 12). the processing actually helped a lot to enhance the colours and the lines. great thing that picnik!
so will you do it, too? come on! incorporate the bike, that would be awesome - seven deadly sins with camille's bike. yessss!
oohh Ms Summer I like this! Bitten apple, pearls and that sexy deep blue. yes, lust indeed, excellent take. Sorry I've not been on here, have been sick, and while Saturday is Envy I struggled to think of something that would be pleasant (while I was busy throwing up)....not nice.
But I took a pic last week that I think is ok, not great but I've tried my best. And did I say how much I like this?? Oh yes I indeedy do!
@summerfield - I will give it some thought...honest! July was going to be shots of my beautiful city of Edinburgh but the weather has been soooo dreadful that the rain has been my subject rather than the city.
@meggageg - thank you, meg. i'll get you some when i go visit family in the far east in november.
@bkbinthecity - thank you.
