on the way back from london, ontario yesterday, we passed by the town of port credit to shoot this lighthouse. port credit is about 24 kilometres west of downtown toronto.
"The name "Port Credit" came from its roots as a trading post where goods were traded or bought on credit. x x x The heart of Port Credit is its harbour at the mouth of the Credit River. Once a working fishing port and a regional trading centre for grain and other agricultural products, the Port Credit Harbour has seen many roles in the community. A lighthouse was built in 1882 to serve the sailors on Lake Ontario. It served until 1918 and remained standing until destroyed by fire in 1936." (source: wikipedia.org) a replica of the lighthouse was built in 1991.
there's a 'to die for' fish and chips place on the other side of the street called "helen's fish and chips". the halibut is to die for!
it is still hot in toronto today, there was a light drizze this morning, and almost the whole day the city was covered in a hazy cloud and it made for a really humid day.
Now I'm hungry for some fish and chips!! That is a beautiful building -- and wonderful colors next to the blue sky! I love all the stories and history and background you provide with your wonderful photos!!
@cscecil - i'm learning history as i go along with this photography thing. there are a lot of places that have wonderful history even a small town like port credit. that lighthouse ain't bad, either even though it is just a replica. i should go back there one evening to take a night shot. the harbour sight is quite exquisite, too. i love fish and chips although i tend to hold off on the chips. thanks, CS. @pamfromcalgary - i love lighthouses, too, pam. fifteen years ago, when we drove around the maritimes, the pictures i took were 50% lighthouses. thank you. @jannkc - thanks, jann. i'm having heat rashes on my face and the medication the doctor prescribed isn't working. i put iced water in a sprayer and i mist my face once in a while and that's the only thing that seems to help. i swear i was never this delicate!
@russianblue - your comment came while i was commenting :-) never been to port credit! there's a tree trunk a block away from the lighthouse with a carving of a pelican in flight. it was wonderfully done. it's a must see, aside from the kayakers and scullers practicing their stuff. thanks, kass.
@meggageg - it will be sunday before you know it, not to worry. yes, a jumping for joy. it can wait until the little guy comes back and he can jump with you. i also want to know how to do the 'just jump' thingie!
@roth - have you seen this in person, sue? it's stunning especially on a bright sunny day. too bad, we were in a rush to go back otherwise, i would have gone down the river and took a photo of it with the water and foliage. methinks the toronto contingent should go and have a photo excursion. someone was trying to organize it back in may, wonder what happened to the plan? re the sig, doesn't it look like i vandalized the wall? hehe! thanks, sue.
@altadc - it sure is a standout, and the sunshine made it even more so. thanks, alta.
@steeler - yes! that's what it looks like. when i first saw it, i thought it was like something assembled out of a box. you are right, looks like the old lego blocks. thank you, howard. @eddyj - you do? post it, i want to see your take on it. i always like seeing how other photographers see something that i've taken. the perspective is always different. looking forward to that, eddy. thank you.
@danig - why, thank you. i was going to process/edit it to make the red more vibrant but i held off and just put in the name tag. we should make a list of adjectives so we don't run out :-P thanks, DG,
@catsmeowb - it is tilted, it's the way i hold the camera because i am quite short hehehe. i should learn how to take my time when composing a shot. it was very hot and humid at about 4 in the afternoon and i was hungry, too. not that i'm making excuses. :-) thank you, camille.
