"octopus's garden" by the beatles

"I'd like to be under the sea
In an octopus's garden in the shade.
He'd let us in, knows where we've been
In his octopus's garden in the shade.
I'd ask my friends to come and see
An octopus's garden with me.
xxx
Oh what joy for every girl and boy
Knowing they're happy and they're safe
We would be so happy you and me
No one there to tell us what to do
In an octopus's garden with you."
(Starkey, with Harrison, from the album "Abbey Road", 1969)

The idea for the song came about when Starr was on a boat belonging to comedian Peter Sellers in Sardinia in 1968. He ordered fish and chips for lunch, but instead of fish he got squid (it was the first time he'd eaten squid, and he said, "It was OK. A bit rubbery. Tasted like chicken.") Then the boat's captain told Ringo Starr about how octopuses travel along the sea bed picking up stones and shiny objects with which to build gardens.

The song, which contains the lyrics "Oh what joy for every girl and boy/Knowing they're happy and they're safe," is sometimes thought of as being a song for children, like "Yellow Submarine". It has also been performed by the Muppets several times in various episodes of their shows. (source: wikipedia)

there was no question as to the "o" song. hands down it had to be ringo's song. the beat, the lyrics, ringo's nasal round voice and the beatles' backing. who could resist? you gotta admit, you'd have been disappointed if i had chosen something else!

i was supposed to ply the chinatown and find a restaurant where they have live seafood on display or a cooked octopus hanging by the window. alas! i had to attend a meeting at the office during lunch. so i got stymied. where to get a shot of an octopus. i thought i'd take a selfie with my hands in different positions. scrap that, it would be the weekend before i'd be finished. so taking a shot of a part of a picture of an octopus from the book 'visual dictionary' by fireply press, the shot didn't come out great but i got inspired by camille bisson's (@catsmeowb) posting today; but i took the easy way by sticking stickers in picnik on. yay! so garden + octopus = octopus's garden (in the shade)! hope you like it.
so creative, awesome shot and processing, great match for the song, great info too ... i'm really enjoying this challenge you've set for yourself. Q is drawing near ... ;-)

thank you! what a complement. this is a beautiful photo. i get inspired all the time by viewing the incredible posts here on 365 everyday and think to myself, i need to stretch my wings a little. last night i wanted so much to go take photos of young men with their pants hanging down around their knees for 'staying alive' but somehow could not convince malcolm it was necessary to do so. our priorities were not in synch. he thought taking photos of other men's butts could wait- LOL - so i chose another bee gees song. and i so wanted to do a thing about how men walk. . .

very clever pic. apparently George Harrison added the sound of bubbles being blown by recording himself blowing into a glass of milk using a straw.
