"inscriptions"

page 112, The Man Who Loved Books Too Much by Allison Hoover Bartlett

the word today is "inscriptions". so i went to the flatiron building, pretty sure that there would be a plaque with inscriptions on the why and the wherefores of this beautiful landmark. and of course it was there. i didn't realize that this is quite new, at 31 years old. but as you can see it is very distinctive that's why it had become a landmark. i took a photo of this in april when i had 'murals' as my theme (see: http://365project.org/summerfield/365/2011-04-07).

thank you for your comments on my story yesterday. it's funny how some things can just evoke one's memories. my little sister (who is no longer little of course) who lives in the old country gets to see my postings, and is starting to know me through my little stories here. she was of course too young to know anything about me during that time, except that i was bossy - of course, all big sisters (and brothers) are that way. she's an artist and when i go visit her next month, i will force her to spend one whole day (that's a threat!) with me so she can give me some drawing and painting lessons (for free!). i am really gearing up for my retirement, want to have a lot of choices: be a painter, a writer, a fauxtographer, a concert pianist, maybe? or most probably just a joker.
You have many possibilities with your future, summerfield. I'm sure that you can pursue many of these avenues! Love the plaque and the building on the photo. Angle of the building and lines are wonderful! Love the processsing!

I love your retirement plans -- they sound like mine!!! There's so much to do!!! I can't imagine you being a bossy big sister (okay, I'm laughing at that one!) Cool pic, of course and love your sharing!

I love your photos and stories. I am sure that whatever you do in retirement will be spiced with your creativeness.

@karenann - and to think when i was young i wanted to be a lawyer! what was i thinking? :-) thanks, karenann.

@cscecil - we're not really retiring then, we're just finding more creative ways to stress ourselves. thanks, CS.

@pamfromcalgary - if i don't forget being creative. why, just this minute i forgot that i was going to turn off the laptop! thanks, pam!

Well, me too, summerfield. Even started pre-law and then went another direction. English major!!

@karenann - i went further: law proper. was going to article but didn't. someone enslaved my heart. plus it became too tedious. so i now have a diploma in hotel management. maybe i should be a sommelier. or a convenience store manager :-D

I love love love this building!~ I did a photo of this mural too! ~ I love the angle you have of it. ~ I want to go back to Toronto and get the front of the building. ~ Great shot!

I love reading inscriptions on buildings to see who conceptualized the design and when it was built. Here in PI you can see either ancient inscriptions which are really interesting and inscriptions that read donated by this dirty politico (not from his own pocket of course). Tsk! =)

Nice one. Inscriptions often say more about motivations than the reality of existence. Nice picture.

fascinated with how you did this building. love it. and also am so interested in how much our histories coincide- same but different. i, too, planned on being a lawyer but had a child so chose a different path. trained in a law office.

Great diptych to show your inscription and its context :) I sometimes think my mum is getting to know me through my project too. We don't talk as often as we'd both like (9-12hour time difference is great for getting in the way), but mum follows my pics.

@altadc - and you can be sure you donated at least a peso to it :-) thanks, alta.

@sanera - when you do, let me know, we'll take it together. i can't quite capture the front quite well. i read somewhere that a photograph is a combination of the photographer's eye and the lens. i think i have a good eye but my camera talks in a strange language (maybe yiddish or in tongues i suppose) so the resulting photo is confusing to me. hahaha! thanks, sam.

@netkonnexion - aint' that the truth. thanks muchly.

@catsmeowb - it's a triangular building, this is the back (methinks). the mural itself is a 3-D sort of, that's my best description of it. i've read in one of my books that some of us have been woven or plucked from the same soul thus we meet people who seem to have the same life and fortune as ourselves; that these remnants don't wander very far from one another so at some point we do meet them. thanks, camille.

@alia_801 - thanks, alia. always tell your mom you love her. i lost mine when i was very young and always wish she's still here.

@alia_801 - diptych - i meant to say there's another idea for a theme!

Sorry to hear about your mom :( Thanks for the reminder.
A diptych theme could be lots of fun too :)

It is very distintive indeed. Nicely done

@bkbinthecity - thank you.

fabulous shots, sorry not much time to look and comment. love the angle here.

@danig - thanks, DG!

great retirement plans! I think you should be a renaissance woman and engage in all of those things that you love to do. really interesting image too :-)

@patticake - thanks, patti. dabbled as a crafter, a writer, now a wanna-be photographer (actually i just like taking photos, but i don't really want to be a photographer, does that make sense?). wonder what's next for me.
