i love taking photographs of sceneries and i feel very blessed that i live in such a beautiful country that is endowed with vast lands, majestic mountains, rich history and gets an ample amount of snow.
this morning partner drove me down to the beaches as there was a heavy snowfall during the last hour or so and it made for such a beautiful winter wonderland. the tree branches were laden with snowy ice and it being a long weekend, there was not a lot of traffic. the temperatures started to climb up and the snow would melt away quite fast.
the woodbine park near the beaches was totally covered by pristine white stuff. i was setting up my camera to take panoramic shots when i heard barking and people talking. a couple with their two dogs passed by as i started to take photos. peeking through my EVF i notice one of the dogs sitting on the snowy ground, and he was right in the centre of my view of the gazebo/grandstand way in the middle of the park (so you can appreciate the size of this park, this used to be a race track). his masters called out for him to catch up but he just sat there while i was waiting for him to leave. then it dawned on me that he probably wanted his photo taken. so i yelled "okay" and focused on him but when i pressed my shutter he darted out of my camera's view. he barked at me a few times as they left and didn't stop until i waved him 'bye'. only then did he run to catch up with his family.
i was kicking myself for that lost opportunity. to my surprise, however, as i checked my shots when i got home, i actually got a photograph of him with the other dog prancing about, probably prodding him to go on ahead. as you can see, the couple is almost out of the camera's range.
this is something i like: a complete photographic surprise. when you thought that you have missed another opportunity yet again and turns out you got it after all.
Awww.....what a nice memory. And I too, like to see that I got it, or...even better, that I got something better or different than I had tried for. That is what I love about photography...the surprises! I also have learned that at times, I love my pic for the feeling it brings back to me....or the memories....This seems like one of those for you. I have one of bluebirds flying around a soccer field/goal that I am about to post on Thurs. Feb. 16 that are that way for me...I love to look at it and remember that moment.....relaxing after a hard day, looking forward to a 4 day weekend and watching the bluebirds play.
Yes, I like how you've captured the whole story- couple walking by and dogs playing and posing. And I love that snowy blue tint from the weather and time of day. Nice shot!
@mikegifford - actually, it wasn't so cold this morning. all those white stuff was gone by mid-morning, to be replaced by fresh snow at least twice today. thank you, mike.
lovely shot! so early for a saturday - good for you! i'm really getting an education on how other parts of the world see our winters. Many people think all shots with snow seem cold ... i guess it's all relative. it's been warm here for the last while and but there's still some icy snow around. you're temps are even warmer there. hope you stopped somewhere for a good breakfast on your way home.
@sunnygreenwood - anne, the weather here has really been weird. by ten or eleven, all that beautiful snow was gone. then the sun was peeking through the clouds, the next hour big flakes of snow were coming down. the whole day, it's been a jekyll and hyde kind of weather. finally in the evening all was clear. i don't know what's happening there right now, but we're supposed to have good weather tomorrow and high temperatures. really weird. thank you, anne.
@karenann - thank you, karenann. you actually made the posting for today a tad easy as i had no idea which of the items in the list i could tick off. i owe you one!
@danig - gone, all melted, it's just ugly crappy brown withered whatever with dried branches and bent twigs. i really really need a wingman so i can go about and take photos. if not i will just stick to writing. thank you, DG.
I know your story is about the dog and I loved reading it but it is the light post that stands out for me in this deep purple landscape and makes the shot
@roth - gone! like my mind! haha! thank you, sue.
@alia_801 - one of my lucky shots, i guess. thank you, alia.
