windows

one of the positive features of our apartment unit is the large set of windows in the living room. it's as close as i can get to having a bay window. the windows face east so that when the sun is bright, this part of the apartment is awashed in sunlight. ours is the only unit with that style of radiator and i like it because i can have a shelf on warmer months when it's not in use, and during cold months, i have a place to keep my food warm. :-)

when the blinds are open and i see that the grass is at the level of the sill, it means it's time for partner to mow it, and we have a view of a wooden fence the demarkation line between the property and the parking lot on the other side.

as soon as it gets a bit dark, i close the blinds so nobody can see in as sometimes the other tenants would be on their cellphones and would walk aimlessly around there. partner had already told them to stay away from this part of the building.

on the lower right of the photo is my writing nook. on the lower left is my 'set up' corner. i'm not big on curtains. if it was up to me i'd have the blinds taken down, too, and install those filter sheets on the panes, the kind where you can see outside but anyone outside can't see you.
Looks just right for two! I would enjoy those window too- but I am a partial to curtains! Nice shot!

Looks very inviting. I think I would have more plants! Nice and cozy.

Love the whole POV ... so nice to see a little bit of your world! I love your "space." You are SO neat and orderly. Great windows ...but also like my privacy too. We don't have curtains up in this apartment either. But at night we close up tight.

Nice shot of your home :) It would be lots of fun to have that window film you mention (we had something similar on the computer lab windows I used to teach in, My students were always amused when people outside would stop to fix their hair or pick their teeth, not realising that 30 people were watching them pull odd faces...)

@olivetreeann - thank you, ann. if i would have curtains, i'd like the sheer kind that would only filter the light, not block it. but blinds are easier to clean - just run the vacuum over it on both sides and voila!

@pamfromcalgary - there were more plants on the sill at one time but the radiator could be so hot during the cold months and they wither. maybe i'll get some cactus-type for the next winter. thank you, pam.

@bkbinthecity - thank you, brian.

@karenann - thank you, karenann. i'm far from orderly - i had to straighten the books and remove most of what's on the sill on to the floor for this shot.

@alia_801 - thank you, alia. that's fun with the computer lab! i don't understand people sometimes. don't they think they can be seen on the other side of the glass when they pick their teeth? hahaha!

@summerfield lol Vikki! I think blinds are a pain in the neck to clean! I'd rather take down my sheers, run them through the wash and hang them back up (no dryer- they dry just fine on the rod and don't need to be ironed!).

what a lovely glimpse into your life. i enjoyed all your pics and stories from the past week or so. nice that you got away for writing, super nice partner to drive and find photo ops, nice views of To. your new hat is very dashing!

I love the cool uncluttered feel, which I have never mastered and have quite given up on. I hate curtains, and have none in my dining room, which only faces my trees, or kitchen. I used to do curtained windows and blame the change on moving to the solar free zone.

i agree with the comments regarding how neat and orderly you are. each photo you post of your home is so organized, but i imagine you must need to be due to your busy life. so enjoying this curtain discussion since we have just gone through a very long and detailed one in our house; if not needed to keep the sunlight out when i have a headache, i would not have them but for some reason, malcolm feels exposed without them. out here. like who is going to see us, the moose and bears? lovely shot.

You are such a writer! I was loving your commentary on your window. Like knowing when to tell your partner to mow! Haha And the many uses of the radiator. Just great. And you know why they wander over on those cell phones..we already had that discussion last week. hee hee

Radiators! Last time we needed one, we were living in Manchester (UK). Over here, we have a standing fan in every room and, wherever someone is, that fan is on. The weather is infernally hot. Love your windows. I like windows because they let in light. But I'm not particularly fond of bright, direct sunlight through the window because it gets really hot (and bleaches the furniture) so I can't live without curtains. And fans. 8)

I so miss my radiators! New house has a furnace/central air and it's the first time I have lived with it. I want my rads back! ;-) I bet you get glorious light throughout those great windows.

@sunnygreenwood - lol! thank you, anne. i'm glad you visited. much appreciated.

@pandorasecho - tip: the clutter was right below the frame so it doesn't show! hehehe. thank you, dixie.

@catsmeowb - i'm far from neat and orderly. i've given up on me a long time ago. hoard! hoard! hoard! that's what i do and now i can't keep up with tidying up what i've hoarded over the years. amity is already turning me away. hahaha. but in my bedroom the window has the filter sheets so nobody can see in but i know when there's someone outside. thank you, camille.

@espyetta - thank you, MB. i love this radiator. in the bedroom i cover it with an antique runner and keep my table mirror or my iPod speaker and when i have flowers i either put the vase on it or on the window sill. gotta be creative to maximize the space.

@myautofocuslife - i can deal with the heat if i live by the sea, that's what i found out last year. whenever i got hot, i just ran to the water for a few minutes. hmmmm but maybe it was because i was on vacation. i got to rethink that again. :-) thank you, livia.

@russianblue - thank you, kass. these rads are great. i can also thaw stuff there during the winter, like if i have to bake and need to soften the butter. :-)

I love windows -- the more, the better!! Love the glimpse into your living area!

Like your set up. Looks like a great window to let light in. For me, I've always had blinds, and have grown to like them. I finally after years of curtains was able to talk my wife into putting up wooden blinds. My wife doesn't particularly like them, but this time around, she's entertaining my whims. I'm sure it won't last long.
