mysterious

partner and i went for a walk this evening so i thought i'd bring my camera as i have a wingman. we walked the side streets far from the main street where we live. we looked at a lot of gardens and i took some photos.

we found these flower in one of the front gardens. they are huge! and tall, almost at my eye level. the walk was lined with these babies from the edge of the sidewalk to the steps leading up to the house's porch. but we didn't find this anywhere else.

does anyone know what this flower is called? i may have to google this.

My grandmother called them coxcombs

You know the book, "A wrinkle in Time" there is a scene where they fly into the thin air way up high and breath through a big flower that is really a bunch of tiny flowers in the shape of a big one - this is what I imagined years ago when I read that scene.

Cockscomb. My father used to buy two pots of these every time Chinese New Year swung around. Not quite so tall ones though. It looks like the red comb on a rooster's head... or bloody brains. It all depends on your state of mind. ;D

This is a beautiful view. On a side note keep posting shots like this and who needs to comment? ;0)

Mel
hi! im your push partner for this week, i am starting to struggle to choose challenges for people but after looking thru your album i have slightly altered another one i saw somewhere else for you :) in the film indestry it is a well know saying never work with children or animals, I challenge you to take some animal shots!! if you dont have any in your household, take a walk along the street or head to a zoo or similar and see if you can capture any animals :)

@emjay8 - hello, mel. push accepted and thank you. the reason i don't have animal shots is because i am allergic to cats and furry animals and i have a terrible phobia of dogs (i was mauled twice by a german shepherd when i was a little girl). i don't go to zoos as i had witnessed a lion escape from our zoo and it ended up in our front yard, also when i was a little girl. but, i'm not aversed to going to the races but don't go near the horses either. but, we're going to take on some big stakes today so i'm on, partner! thank you.
