get pushed #11 - simply out of focus by summerfield

get pushed #11 - simply out of focus

my get pushed partner for this week, amy @aspada challenged me to "simple and out-of-focus. You can do whatever you like as long as the comp is simple and out of focus."

behold my one valuable possession, a real pearl. my mother had this pearl pendant ever since i could remember and she gave this to me a few weeks before she died 37 years ago. i forgot where it came originally. we know this to be real pearl because real ones would sometimes 'reproduce', that is a growth appears on the surface of the pearl.

quite interesting that for someone superstitious, telling me that i can't wear pearl until i got married, my mother sort of handed this pendant down to me. there was a lot of 'tales' surrounding this simple pearl pendant, including the proper way to hand it down to the next generation. once my late aunt ordered me to give it to a cousin and there were some calculations and rigamarole they cited but i said there's no way in effing hell i'd give this away, my mother gave it to me!

thank you, ladies and gentlemen for your kind views and commentsl; know that they are much appreciated.

sooc
@aspada - hope you like.

Very simple and just beautiful! Lovely story behind the pearl.

It's simple and out-of-focus so it meets the bill. You captured the iridescence and color of the pearl very well! The story behind it is very interesting... makes you wonder where it came from. If you would like more ideas for this challenge have a look at beachradish's work http://www.flickr.com/photos/beachradish

Perhaps you missed my message to you the other day. I've already had the challenge to do a self portrait so if you'd like to think up something new for me to do that would be great. Thanks :)

Thisi is perfect for her assignment to you. Andi is a pretty and interesting photo on its own too. I loved how the aunt was telling you to give it over....Hahn! Glad you kept it. You lost your mom way too early in life...it is nice to have something g she left to you to remember her love for you.

Simply lovely

Isn't it funny how sometimes going against your instincts of what makes a good picture. Still gives you a good picture. Before I really started looking around here I would have deleted all my out of focus, camera movement, imperfect shots but I have learned to love the moodiness of some of them a lot

It's definitely simple and out of focus....well done!
Wonderful story as well =)

nice shot, very delicate. what an interesting challenge - i agree with what Dixie says. i have learned so much here. i was looking at a shot on the pp page a few weeks ago - it was another out-of-focus shot. i thought of how many i had deleted due to that factor! i find your pearl story fascinating. i was told they are the one thing you never buy for yourself. bad, bad luck. must be a gift.

Fun shot. I like it.

@bkbinthecity - thank you, brian.

@salza - thank you, sally.

@aspada - thank you, amy. it's an interesting style, i must say. and it took me about 25 shot before i was able to get just the right amount of blur. i must say it's not as easy as one might think.

@espyetta - thank you, MB. yup, there was no way i was parting with it unless it's with my two younger sisters, even then they'd have to wait until i'm six feet below the ground. imagine if i obeyed auntie's order? then i won't have a photo for today! :-)

@peterdegraaff - thank you, peter. interesting concept, i thought.

@claireuk - thank you, claire.

@pandorasecho - thank you, dixie. yes, it's funny that we always strive to take a photo in focus and then to be asked to take something out of focus is quite something. you really have to be careful that you get just the right amount of blur.

@tanja_1211 - thank you, tanja.

@catsmeowb - thank you, camille. my mother made sure that she only gave me the pendant and not the chain. but after we buried her, my father gave me the chain together with an old pendant which was from his aunt. and that's the extent of my inheritance. hahaha!

@netkonnexion - thank you, damon.

@russianblue - thank you, kass.

Nicely done- the soft blur is a nice effect for the pearl. I think you chose the right subject for this challenge.

I think you did this perfectly :)

you are so lucky you have these beautiful 'tactile' things from her, though, vikki, and all your wonderful memories, too. things you can hold in your hands when you think of her. after my mother's funeral, my stepbrother went to her home to get some of his grandmother's things and took everything he saw that belonged to our mother. he got together with my other brother and tried to sue her then husband because she did not leave a will! he already took everything, right down to her pantyhose hanging in the bathroom. poor man came home to his house, stripped, after the funeral, and he had just gotten out of the hospital himself. what family does to family, huh?
