it's not as massive a failure as my first tries so this one gets posted.
i've seen shots like this that were unbelievably perfect, no reflections whatsoever. so, if anyone has done this with much success, please be kind enough to share your secrets, because i tried all kinds of setting combinations and this is the best i can come up with. i also can't find any tutorials online on this.
This is another great idea Summer (is this your real name, I feel a bit daft calling you a pseudonym...) and I'll have to copy the idea sometime. I love how you always put an explanation or link on with your adventurous photos, thanks!
@jackie8 - hahaha! i've not heard (or read) the term "daft" in so many years! it's vikki but most everyone forgets and some even thought my name is summer. i'm used to being called names (as long as i don't get to hear it :-D). i will refine this and then i can share with you. have you done smoke? that i can do with no problem! thank you, jackie.
@abhijit - thank you, ab. the ceiling light most probably. if i turn it off, all i get is one big black photo! when i try this again, i'll be sure to refer to your advice. thanks muchly.
If you really want to learn how to make a great refraction shot you should ask Vickie (summerfield) she really knows how to do this shot perfect. I once saw a glass of water that made such awesome green, red, white stripes & patterns! She's the expert!
In all honesty I think you are too hard on yourself because this is seriously a fantastic shot
